Bad friend: I forgot to buy a birthday present for my Canadian friend. I am in the UK. I would like to be able to give her something today. I have a debit card, a credit card, Paypal and the internet.
I'm thinking that a voucher would be good, but for example, can I buy an amazon.ca voucher for her? Can she use an amazon.com or .co.uk voucher in Canada? What other vouchers are there that will allow me to pay from the UK? [more inside]

I'm interested in having a requester account with amazon turk.
I live in Canada...But I am physically close to the US border.
Can anyone tell me of an acceptable workaround to accomplish this?
I've considered driving to the US to open an account but I don't want to do that unless I know for sure it will allow me to run a requester account.

My husband and I have just returned from a great trip to West Texas; both back to work tomorrow. In order to keep our sanity, need to start planning the next road trip. Any suggestions? Probably no more than 10-12 days during the summer and we are willing to fly to a start off point. We like to linger. Preferably in the US or Canada.

Cool, useful, or delicious things to bring back to the US from Canada that are only available in Canada? All ideas welcome (except things like maple syrup, which although abundant in Canada are available in the US too).

I'm trying to remember the name of a children's TV show broadcast on (I think) YTV around 1995, I think it was in the slot after Camp Cariboo. It was probably Canadian, and it had a mailbox puppet that said "YOOOOOOU BET!" when asked if there was any mail, and one of the men on the show used to dress up like a bee, which I remember terrifying me as a child. It may have been broadcast on TVO, but I'm fairly certain it was YTV. [more inside]

I am not in Canadabut I have a credit card loaded with 75 Canadian dollars. What is the smartest way to buy something in canadian dollars off of Amazon (amazon.ca
)? I will need any purchase shipped to the U.S.. Will there be crazy unforeseen delivery charges buying through amazon.ca? Is there a way to get this money onto my amazon.com account as credit? Is there some other smart way to spend Canadian dollars while living in the u.s.? Is there some way to get it transferred through the credit card company to an account of mine? The card says it is only for electronic use. [more inside]

How can I locate sources for statistics on the outcomes of Canadian criminal court cases, that include such data as type of defence counsel (ie Legal Aid, from large firm, high profile, new in field, or preferably cost of counsel), amount of time before trial, income/profession of defendant, sentence given, and sentence actually carried out?
Does such data even exist?
I'm only asking out of curiosity, not for any professional or education project.

Planning a trip to the Banff/Jasper area late June-early July. Not our first, but first in 8 years or so. There was an excellent thread on MeFi in 2008 concerning accomodations, but some of the links have expired. I will be there for a milestone birthday and want to wake up somewhere amazing. Must have internet/wifi. Must be close enough to amenities that if the weather is abysmal, we'll still have nice things to do within slogging distance. Don't want to spend a milliion bucks, but are willing to shell out for somewhere which is worth the money.

On Christmas eve I discovered that my (US) passport expired last month yet I had a trip to Canada planned two days later (no time to renew). Well, I am in Canada (no trouble crossing the border). Now do I have to spend my next few days renewing the passport so I can get home? I guess I'm wondering how much leeway border agents have. I have the passport, my birth certificate and driver's license.
