Petrified new hiker needs your help

I'm a female in my early 20s and am going on a company hike to to the juan de fuca marine trail in a few weeks. We're hiking like 23 miles in two days and carrying 20-30lb packs. The trail has been described as "moderate to difficult." I am not overweight but I am NOT in shape. I do not work out. I am afraid this ordeal might just kill me. I am an indoor girl. I'm seriously regretting my decision to do this. But it's too late to go back now. [more inside]

Oregon camping spots

Need some suggestions for Oregon camping. I'm located in Eugene. My wife's b-day is coming up and we're due some off-the-beaten track in Nature time. We'll have four days and don't want to drive more than 4 hours or so, so that's a radius of 240 miles in any direction. We'd like to find some place off-road that our van (old, not particularly robust) can negotiate which is ripe for exploring, camping and checking out. [more inside]

Camping around Seattle this time of year?

I want to go camping this weekend somewhere inside a 3 hour drive (or so) from Seattle. I'd prefer backcountry camping so I've got some isolation. But I don't particularly want to hike and camp in the snow, so I need to stick to a low elevation. What are some good options?

Deserted beach camping in the DC-area

I'm looking for extremely primitive beach camping sites (preferably on the Chesapeake) in the DC/MD/VA area. I'm talking about places with no running water, no bathrooms, nothing but nature for miles around. Assateague Island's backcountry camping sites are a perfect example of what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? Thanks!

City folk want to expand their horizons in the American west

My husband and I are thinking about taking a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado next summer. I want to stay close to wilderness, but we have little camping experience and no equipment at this time - I was kind of hoping for a rustic cabin experience nearby. I've read previous threads about this but many of the answers seem to be about experienced campers. Does anyone have any recommendations of where to stay or the easiest way to ease camping newbies into an out-west nature experience?

To stick down that seam tape or not...

Following up to this question, my tent seam seal failed to stick down some of the taped seams that were coming untaped. Is it supposed to be able to stick them down or is that irrelevant as long as the seam seal goop absorbs into the stitching etc. I just thought that since when I bought the tent some of the taped seams were stuck down properly and some were peeling up, that maybe that was responsible for the leakage. To duct tape or not to duct tape...

I have this tent. The rainfly according to the box is polyester and the plastic window for the solar panel is PVC and the seams where the two materials join are 'taped'. (They are also stitched, whatever.) This seal between the two materials is leaking. Given the type of materials how do I patch this leak? (I have sprayed all interior seams with Silicone tent spray as instructed).

Happy camper. Or not...

I have scored a week long wilderness trip. Hurrah for me. Except the last time I went camping was when I was, oh, 14. And I hated it. This time, I'll be working as well as camping.
