I am looking for some sweet camping gear to give as a gift to my new bride. The only catch is that we already have most of the basics. Looking for something she/we can really use and would make a great gift.

Starting in a month, my girlfriend and I will be living for the summer in a 10x16, two room Kelty tent we bought on craigslist. We will be living/working on a farm outside of Olympia, WA. We'd love any advice/experience you might have on long-term tent living. We're super excited about it but we are aware it will suck sometimes... what sucked about it and how can we prepare for the suck? Lots more details inside on building a makeshift kitchen, hopefully cozy bedroom, etc. [more inside]

Backpacking Hammock filter: I currently use a MSR Hubba for backpacking but am intrigued by the idea of hammocks and would like to go with a hammock for my next few trips; it could possibly replace my tent for all non-desert camping. There's a ton of choices to go with, so help me if you can please. [more inside]

I'm going to be in a cabin in the wilderness for three days with one of my best friends. We will each be bringing flip cameras with us.
We want to make a viral video and we're looking for ideas of what to shoot/make. Any ideas? Go wild! We're open to just about anything.
If we end up using your idea, we promise to mention your name in the credits.

My wife and I just held one of our thermarests underwater. We counted nine separate leaks bubbling air. Wet, it sounded like a squeaky radiator as all the air leaked out. I blame our sharp-clawed and inquisitive cats. Anyhow, I don't know if we can get to a camping store before the weekend-- does anyone have experience patching these things with bike tube kits, shoe goo, or other easily-available gunk?

Looking for some suggestions for camp sites in the vicinity of Southern California for a camping trip this weekend.
Amenities-wise the basics would work fine - water, a fire pit, and level ground to pitch our tent. Anything above and beyond that is icing. The campsite must allow dogs (we plan on bringing our pug, Hoggle).
We really enjoy trail hiking and solitude and we most likely won't be doing any kind of water-related activities, although picturesque lakes and streams are a plus.
Past places we've enjoyed camping at:
-Coral Pink Sand Dunes - outside of Kanab, UT
-Tanner's Flat Campground - UT
-Fernwood Lodge - Big Sur, CA
-Joshua Tree State Park
-Malibu Creek State Park
This is going to be a weekend trip so the driving distance has to be manageable. So, please, no recommendations for Redwoods National Park or Zion or something like that.

Myself and two friends have decided to do our annual reunion in Olympic National park but since we’re all short on vacation, we only have Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Is there a way we could somehow combine a 4-10 mile day hike with a coastal experience in this amount of time? I've seen the wta.org and nps.gov sites but I'm sort of overwhelmed by choice and looking for recommendations. [more inside]

Our tent is OK but there's a gap between the sides and the groundsheet, which makes it rather chilly. How can I best make it more wind- and rain-proof? I think attaching a strip of some sort of waterproof material around the bottom of the sides, that could be tucked under the groundsheet, is the best option. But what sort of fabric? And how do I stop the water wicking up it from the ground and making the sides of the tent wet? [more inside]

Camping in Alaska: I'm looking to camp at the Eklutna Lake campgrounds 3 weeks from now on way to a 4 day sojourn into Denali State Park. However, I can't reserve a spot in advance. How likely is it that there will be no free campgrounds available, being slightly after the end of the summer season? What are some similar quality campgrounds in the "between Anchorage & Denali" zone if Eklutna is fully booked? [more inside]

Recently divorced, 39, and moving from MA to MT in early Sept. I was planning on driving along the I-90. I'm trying to figure out what is worth visiting, and also where to stop/camp along the way. This is about a 3000 mile drive. And I'm hoping to drive around 600 miles a day, but this is adjustable to some extent. I wouldn't mind spending extra days in some locations if its worthwhile.
One stop I plan to make will be Niagra Falls. (I also have both USA and Canadian Passports, so I can cross the border ok.)
I hope to camp most of the way. I also have a large 80lb doberman-mix, which complicates things slightly.
I'd be willing to get off the I-90 to see some things if its worth it. I'm not in a rush..
I'm more interested in things found in nature rather than city-life type stuff. But stopping in some big cities for some notable food or sites wouldn't be rejected outright.
