Heading to Harpers Ferry, WV for three days next week. Here are the specifics: rented a KOA cabin for two nights, taking the wife and two kids -- 9-year-old boy and 19-month-old boy. Looking for suggestions on activities, sites to see, and -- by all means -- any fun campfire songs or recipes.

Road-trip filter. I am in the process of planning a rather ambitious honeymoon. He and I are canoeing in the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota for a week, which is exciting enough, but we are also planning to drive there. From Mississippi. And tent camping on the way.

I'm planning a road trip to Yellowstone NP from Starkville, MS. Tips, suggestions of roads to take and places to stop, stay, eat, and see (we're tent camping, and we're talking spring break one year from now), we'll be in my 2006 Sentra.

Hubby and I are planning a last minute trip to Mexico. We're going to fly into Cancun and don't plan on renting a car since we're on a tight budget. We'd like to find a beach campground that's along the Caribbean Sea where we can stay away from crowds and just relax and maybe even do some shore fishing. Would be great it's within walking distance to a small local restaurant of sorts or even if it's just stalls. Does one exist? For the life of me, I have not been able to find any budget beach camping information online. I guess what makes it more difficult is that we'd like to be able to get there by bus and/or colectivo, if possible and it will be during the holidays! I knew I should have researched before booking but we got a good price and well...it will be winter and we could use the sun! Anyone BTDT? :)
p.s. I'm totally open to suggestions! TIA!!!

I shall walk into the wild maybe for a week or so, depending on the weather, blisters, etc.
Who has recommendations for (relatively safe) *long* solitary walks in the U.S. or Canada?
Specifically, I'm looking for a hike/trail/path that I can follow -- walking 7-10 hours a day, for 5-7 days in a row. No cell phone, no computer, no schedule.
This would be a sort of annual retreat/walk/vacation/time-to-reset-my-body, that I'd like to do every year. Time to think, lose a few pounds, kick-up my metabolism, detox, chill out, regroup, spiritually recharge, etc.
Assuming I don't want to carry a gun into the wild (to protect against critters or humans), where are some interesting, safe destinations???
I'm not a survivalist and I'm not looking for an adventure per se. Prefer a minimum of life-threatening hazards and/or 100+ degree temperatures or freezing nights.

Thinking about a cross country trip thru Canada in a camper with a Golden Retriever. Any advice, tips, recommendations or warnings? I haven't yet set an itinerary but probably will cross in Buffalo/Lewiston. Eventually want to make my way to Portland, OR. Perhaps after a side trip to Vancouver area.

Have you been to the Azores? (Or do you live there?) I'm seeking info about camping and other very low-budget traveling in the Azores. I would love to hear about any of the islands -- I'm also especially interested in Flores and Corvo if you know anything at all about the camping sites there.

I'm looking for UK camp site resources/info that are a bit less mainstream. I've done a fair amount of camping locally to where I am in Sussex on farms and other less organised camp sites -- all found via word of mouth -- but I'm looking to head a bit further away. The problem I'm finding is that most camping info is either 'proper' camp/caravan (*shudder*) sites or 'alternative' eco/politics-type places. Any ideas? [more inside]
