i am hoping you guys can help me find a great book to read. i loved bill bryson's "a walk in the woods." do you know of one that would be in that vein (travel/ humor) but dealing with car camping, or national parks, or maybe even driving with your family cross country? alternately, how about something similar to Annie dillard's "pilgrim at tinker creek" but more specific to the canyonlands area? thank you!

36 hours in Maine this weekend with a rental car. I am thinking of not getting a hotel room and instead car-camping. I'll be in Camden Maine for a wedding Friday and Saturday and plan to return to Boston late on Saturday to take a bus to DC. I want to spend as much of Friday wandering around Portland before driving to Camden and kind of want to spend the morning in Portland on Saturday, too. Is this a good idea? Any tips on quiet places to park and snooze?

we're two women driving from milwaukee, wisconsin to central vermont with our dog, and we'd like to car camp along the way. we need a camping place that's dog friendly, not loud and obnoxious, and isn't run by religious fundamentalists (we're clearly total homos). any recommendations on sites?
