I am a progressive and am upset about the election. I live in a solidly blue U.S. state, and I want to spend 3 months in 2018 volunteering to do GOTV or community organizing for an organization dedicated to electing democrats. This will be in addition to giving money -- I want to actually talk to actual humans and make an actual difference. How? [more inside]
I'm helping organize a phone banking effort from Hawaii for a ballot initiative in Washington state (3 hours ahead). From my googling, It seems the consensus is to phone bank 2-5pm Hawaii time (5-8 PST), Mon-Thurs. Since that's pretty inconvenient for most people's work schedules, we're considering holding these on the weekends. If we're to phone bank on the weekends, does anyone know if different hours would be more optimal than 5-8 PST? [more inside]

What information is there about how to form a political action committee? What restrictions are there as far as advertising, focus, where the funds wind up, overhead costs, salary for PAC employees, etc? What is allowed federally, and what is allowed on a per-state basis? [more inside]
Many years ago I recall watching a movie, where this southern state politician (supposedly based on a true character) was pulling dirty tricks during his campaign. IIRC, he for example accused his competitor of being a "humanist", along with several other carefully chosen praise words which, to his uneducated voters, sounded like insults. Does anyone know which movie I am referring to, or who this politician was?

I gather from Howard Dean's announcement today that he and the Obama People don't get along. I'm curious though how much Obama's win and the Congressional turnover are due to Dean's strategies and policies as head of the DNC. [more inside]

I'd like to make a presidential campaign contribution, but I want to avoid being put on any kind of list.
I'd like to make a presidential campaign contribution, but I want to avoid being put on any kind of list. Should I mail cash? I'm afraid to use a check or credit card. It will be under $200, the threshold above which the law requires the campaign to report my info. I guess I could do a money order. But are completely anonymous donations okay? If so, what's to stop someone from making 1,000 different anonymous donations of $150, and skirting the $200 law?
