I have an iPhone 6s Plus, which has become pretty much my only camera for the last several months. I actually like it a lot and have been learning to get some photos out of it that I really like. However, I'd like to have more control over the camera settings than I get from the default app. Is there an app that does this well? [more inside]
I am trying to find a digital camera with an available ISO below 80. All the rage is high ISO ratings for low light photography. I want a low ISO so I can use slower shutter settings in brighter light. Any ideas?
I need a new camera, and I don't think there is any one that fits all my wants. I have a few options, and I'm wondering which is best in the long run or if there's another option I haven't considered. More inside. [more inside]
After years of mindless snapping, I'm finally improving my photography skills by taking my dSLR everywhere and taking more photos more mindfully. This has revealed two gaps in my gear, at least for what I'm focusing on right now: a cross-body camera strap that works for my body and a lens that I like with a focal length < 50mm. Details and requirements inside! [more inside]
I have an elderly Argus C3 camera. The local photo shop has quoted me $65 to fix it. I could buy the identical camera on eBay for much less - there are a ton of listings from $10 to $40 with, the kicker, no guarantees that any of them will work. The few listings that are guaranteed to work run closer to the repair price or well over it. So I have 2 questions, really: 1) Repair or replace? 2) Or go with another camera entirely? [more inside]
We want to take pictures of our new kid. We think a standalone camera would be better than an iPhone. Are cheaper standalone cameras better? [more inside]
Time for me to upgrade from the combination of a Canon point-and-shoot, and the camera on my phone. What camera is a good next step for an aspiring photographer? [more inside]
We're traveling in Japan and my daughter has been taking photos all along on her Sony nex5r camera. After 10 days of beautiful photos, it suddenly it displayed a dialog stating a file format "not recognized" ... ! [more inside]
My four year old son is showing a lot of interest in our cameras, and I'd like to get him one of his own. I'm looking for recommendations from parents whose kid(s) have had and used one for a while and had a good experience with it. [more inside]
I recently came into some old camera equipment, namely a Mamiya C33 with manuals, lenses, and accessories. It looks pretty awesome, but I'm not really a fan of photography- what should I do with it? What might it be worth? [more inside]
I'm looking for a camera similar to Fujifilm X100 in spirit but for under $600. [more inside]
I have an option to buy a used Canon 60D for about $500 CAN, no lenses included. I also see on BH Photo the option to buy the Canon 70D refurbished for about $800 USD. I want a good quality camera to film sit-down videos and sometimes vlogs. Can I get away with using the 60D and will it be good quality? [more inside]
7 months ago I bought a Sony A7II DLSR camera. Though I knew there was a steep learning curve going in, I still haven't mastered the thing. I need some resources (hopefully a class) that will allow me to learn how to take non-grainy pics with this camera. [more inside]
I'm a hobbyist photographer on a very fixed income. My camera is Nikon D3100, which I bought used for $300. Last fall it survived my apartment fire, and I think there's some discoloration from smoke damage. Don't know if I should repair (if so, where? And how much would it cost?) or replace (if so, with what?) I would love some help deciding if repairs would be worth it and, if not, suggestions on models that are good for newbies and are also affordable used.
I'm looking for a digital camera that essentially replicates the experience of using a smartphone camera, but does not have phone functionality, extra apps, or anything else besides basic camera features. Does such a thing exist? Specific critera within. [more inside]

I'm thinking I should pick up a camera to use on my honeymoon in Costa Rica this summer and just to have a better camera around in general (have an iPhone 6). I don't want a DSLR cause I want pretty good portability and no lens-swapping (although the ability to add lenses later doesn't necessarily need to be counted out), in addition to not spending as much as necessary for a solid DSLR/lenses. I recently purchased a highly discounted Sony RX1 that has a crack in the screen. I would like to replace it, but I cannot find a single thing online about how to. [more inside]
90+% of the photos I take are blurry because of my hand tremors. Obviously a tripod would help (so I'll get one) but I'd still like to be able to take candid photos in circumstances where I don't have the time/space to set up a tripod. Are there any small, easy-to-use, inexpensive digital cameras with really good image stabilization? Thanks!
The company I work for wants to take pictures of flooring samples (artificial surfaces that look almost identical to wood). They want 4-5 boards roughly 4 ft x 8 in laid flat and then photographed. [more inside]
Is there anything smart and wireless, a la the Dropcam or Canary, but for outdoors? If not, what's the best alternative?
I'd like to get my 9 year old daughter a new digital camera to call her own. She's had all my cast-offs from over the years but I noticed her favorite is a 2006-era Olympus with all physical controls. Are there any up-to-date pocket cameras with more physical dials than software menu systems? [more inside]
In search of a decent, relatively small camera to use for research and traveling, preferably under 500 bucks. I don't really want a DSLR, because I used to travel with an SLR and a massive lens and I don't want to deal with it now (nor do I really need it.) Is this or this enough camera? Would this be too much camera? Or this? [more inside]
I'm interested in getting a few residential security cameras installed to cover our yard and car areas. Requirements are: ~40 feet night vision, decent motion detection, networked recording to central PC/DVR unit (either over WiFi or PoE power), no batteries, weatherproof, not easily stolen. There are plenty of cameras with good tech specs, but many of them look like warp engines. I imagine putting up giant cameras will not only piss off the neighbors, but serve as a giant ROB ME I HAVE STUFF sign. What exterior cameras are not only good but inconspicuous? [more inside]
Can someone explain these two types of zoom lens specs? [more inside]
I want to sell my Nikon D40. I live just north of Seattle. What's the best place for me to sell it? [more inside]
Hi all. I'm thinking of upgrading my camera from a bridge/superzoom to a proper DSLR. My budget is pretty small and it's likely to see some pretty rough use, so I probably don't want to get anything new. I think I have a pretty good idea of my requirements, but navigating the world of obsolete DSLRs is a bit complicated for me so I would appreciate your recommendations. [more inside]
This blog post has inspired me take better photos of people without spending a fortune. For a given budget (let's say camera body less than $600) should I buy a current low-end DSLR (e.g. the Canon Rebel T5i) or watch eBay for a used higher-end DSLR from a few years ago (e.g. the Nikon D7000)?> [more inside]
After being disappointed in yet another set of vacation photos because I didn't want to lug my dSLR around and ended up relying on my phone's mediocre camera, I've decided it's time for a high-end point-and-shoot. I've spent a couple weeks researching and have narrowed it down to two: the Sony RX100 and the Panasonic Lumix LX7. But I'm having a hard time deciding between the two! Do you have experience with either/both that can help me decide? I don't mind spending the extra money on the RX100 if it's worth it, but is it? [more inside]
Can I buy an iPhone and use it only as a camera without having to sign up for a service plan? I don't really need nor want a smartphone, however, I'm now wondering, with Instagram, etc, if I should start shooting some stuff on a smartphone? The only downside is that I like having big, canvas prints up around the house am under the impression that the phone's image quality is still pretty crappy.
I loved my Canon Rebel XTi, then sold it and got a Fuji x100s. There are things that frustrate me about the Fuji, and I need some help figuring out what camera might be a better fit for me. [more inside]
Small camera enthusiasts: I have had an LX1 as my sole non-cellphone camera for a few years. I like its size. I like its controls. I like shooting in RAW. I don't mind the limited optical zoom, but the dangling loose lens cap is a pain and the low-light performance is abysmal. I have a line on a G9 at a good price. How much of an upgrade would it be?
A friend of a friend has a suspicion her family is being spied on through a shared attic-type space, but currently feels powerless to do anything without proof. Is there a camera a person could hook up in an attic that would take images without any kind of indicator light showing that it was on and without any additional lighting? [more inside]
I had a Nikon FE, back in the day. This camera died, perhaps of a broken heart, around the time that film started to fade in popularity. Along the way I acquired a Nikkor 50mm, a Nikkor 28mm, and an off brand zoom. [more inside]
I've got a vintage Pentax K1000 that I would like to get looked and and CLA (Clean, Lube, and Adjust) serviced. I've got a bit of a sentimental attachment to it, so I am looking for personal experiences/recommendations. [more inside]
I'm going to be in NYC soon. I buy a lot of import (read: straight from Shenzen) photography junk (stands, lens hoods, macro rails, Benro tripods/heads, LED lights, etc). All cheap and low-ish quality. I buy this stuff on eBay and it is almost always coming from Shenzen or NYC/Jersey. If I wanted to see stores or kiosks full of it, where should I look?
A former contractor for a small business I'm involved in has told an employee he plans to sabotage the business' 5 trucks, possibly pouring chemicals in the gas tanks. Advice on the best methods and devices to try to prevent this would be very appreciated. [more inside]
Looking for a compacter-than-DSLR camera to take traveling for a couple of months. I really like my Nikon D90 for its low-light and manual capabilities, but I don't think I'll enjoy bringing it around with me the whole time. I really want a camera that can handle low light and takes good video, without being as bulky as an SLR. I think the NEX-6 satisfies these requirements pretty well. Do I want a NEX-6? Or something else? [more inside]
I bought a Nikon D90 with the 50-105mm/f3.5 kit lens and a 55mm/f1.8 fixed lens. I liked it at first, but now I hate it. Is there any way now to like it even a little bit? [more inside]

Good camera for shooting ceramics? I'm shooting some ceramics for an Etsy seller (along with some other work) and am wondering whether I'd be good with a basic P&S camera or whether it'd be worth renting a DSLR. If a P&S, do you have a recommendation for purchase that would be good for shooting art and crafts in the future?

For motion itself, will a new canon point and shoot (digic5) have the same movement quality as the 5d mark 3 (their nice digic 5 slr)? I understand that the lens quality will differ (chromatic aberration, etc), but what about seeing how the video handles movement, skew, and motion? [more inside]
