I am a novice photographer who would like to improve my skills at photographing vintage cars primarily outdoors in natural light. I am looking to replace my old Nikon D50 and 18-55mm lens with a Nikon D3300. What would be the must-have lenses, filters and accessories for my task? Also best camera settings? Also interested in tricks for getting compelling images. Close up? High angle? Low angle? Just experiment? [more inside]

I will be seeing in the New Year at the top of a 100 meter tall building in Buenos Aires. I have a Canon SX30 IS, a fairly high-end point and click which has plenty of manual settings. We've a 3 year old Canon Rebel XS. It suddenly started reporting an 'Error #99' about a year ago, and the estimates I've received for repairing it are around $250, ugh. Before I spend the money doing that, I was considering replacing it with another camera, wonder what the hive mind thinks. [more inside]

What's the best solution these days, given that "Of course we have a camera that will work!" has turned into "You have $200 to make this happen." [more inside]

What the F is wrong with my camera?I have a Canon PowerShot SD 1200 Digital Elph. As of today, when I try to transfer pictures from the camera to my laptop (Mac) via USB, the camera has a hissy fit -- it makes a bunch of clicking noises, all the lights flash, and it turns itself off. What is going on, and is there anything I can do to fix it?
[PhotographyFilter] So I have a DF-293-NIK flashgun with a plastic hotshoe mount. Sadly, it's cracked off on one side. Can it be repaired or do I have to buy a new flashgun? Photo here.

Recommend me a video camera to use capturing sports action. I'm looking for a USB camera for use outside that can send live capture to a Win7 machine. It should have a wide auto-focus, software to instantly review the feed. I've reviewed previous Mefi posts, and can't decide whether a web cam, stand-alone Hd camcorder, or something like a Flip or helmet cam would be suitable. Right now the Contour or GoPro are considerations, but I'm unsure of the software side. Price is not really important, but I dont' want to spend $500.

Back again. In a previous question I asked about Sony 8mm videotapes in the Philadelphia area. Sadly the price for converting Sony HG120 tape, Sony 8mm MP120 tapes and Sony Video8 MP60 tapes is too expensive for the 3 or 4 tapes I have. I'd rather not pay $150 when the tapes might be mostly blank, have crap on them, or otherwise not be worth spending $120 on. Any ideas? Should I try to buy a cheap camera for these? Anybody want to lend their for a few hours? [more inside]
