What is the best lens for a trip to Europe, for a Canon Rebel XS, that is
budget-friendly?
I'm looking for a lens that will give me a good range of wide shots (buildings, landscapes, etc) as well as the nice details in closer shots. I would ideally like to carry only one lens with me, since I'm traveling light and don't really want to change out lenses all the time.

I am a novice photographer who would like to improve my skills at photographing vintage cars primarily outdoors in natural light. I am looking to replace my old Nikon D50 and 18-55mm lens with a Nikon D3300. What would be the must-have lenses, filters and accessories for my task? Also best camera settings? Also interested in tricks for getting compelling images. Close up? High angle? Low angle? Just experiment?

Why are microscope lenses small and camera lenses large? Surely having large lenses on microscopes would let you gather more light from the thing you're trying to examine and give you a clearer picture.

Just a quick dumb question I can't find answered anywhere else: I have a videocamera with 37.5mm lens threads. A filter I want to buy online has 37mm threads (and that spec seem more common in general). There's a 37.5mm-to-37mm stepdown ring available elsewhere, but it costs twice as much as the filter. Is that 0.5mm really enough to need the stepping ring?

Some of the pictures I took on my last holiday have turned out to have fairly obvious dark smudges. Seems like my trusty point and shoot digital camera has a bad case of dust on the sensor and will need servicing, but is there anything I can do software-wise to salvage the pictures?

This new lens from Sigma (18-250 zoom) comes in a Pentax mount. Pentax puts their DSLR image stabilization in the camera body and not in the lens like Nikon or Canon. Yet the description for all the lenses is the same - image stabilization in the lens. Is this a case of cut&paste product descriptions or would using this lens on a Pentax camera have double image stabilization (both lens & camera body)?
