I'm looking to get a video camera, specifically a quick, durable thing for using with and around a new baby. Super bonus points for being water proof. Details and thoughts inside.

I'm looking for a camera (or video camera w/ still-shot capability) that can do a NIFTY thing my Pencam can do, but with better image quality: I can set up my Pencam in a remote location connected to my PC via a cable, for example focused on some birds at a birdfeeder outside the window, and I can preview on my PC monitor what the Pencam sees & then take a pic with a mouseclick when the timing is right. Any chance?

Does anyone know of or recommend a good flash-memory hi-def camcorder that has AV input? (ie it can also record regular/analogue video from another source, like a VCR does, though obviously it won't be in HD).
Something like the Aiptek A-HD+ meets the flash/HD/AV-in criteria, but I'm hoping to find something with better optics/zoom/stabilization.

Camera Purchase: After a long while being out of film (studies) school, I've decided I want to make a documentary. Unfortunately I'm not really up on hardware these days. Can someone tell me what I can expect to pay, what features to look for, and what camera to buy?

I have a Canon PowerShot G10 taking great pictures and VGA-resolution videos. I'm now looking for a video camera that will allow me to capture videos in HD. Any ideas?

I'm thinking of buying a camcorder. My requirements are slightly unusual: I would like one that does all the "bells and whistles" stuff (image stabilisation, auto light balance, H.264 compression etc). But I also want to be able to turn off all the clever stuff and access the "raw" video. Any recommendations? Hard disk/SD recording is a must, high definition would be good.

I'm in the market for an inexpensive (under $1000) camcorder but every spec on any camera brings up a thousand questions. 3CCD? CMOS? HD? HDV? MiniDV? BluRay? File formats? Still shots? Help!

I run help sessions for math students at my local university. I'd like to start videotaping them and allowing my students to view the recordings on the web.

Let's say I want to film an amateur, feature-length documentary. One can assume I'd use a digital camera for relative cheapness and expediency, but which cameras are good enough to do a professional-looking job? I'd be on a very tight budget. This does not take into account the sound equipment, but perhaps you could also comment on that?
