Currently in Asia and want to call US cheap. What options besides Skype do I have? Not a big fan of sim cards as they are hard to find here.

Please help me design a method for using an old iPhone to make and receive calls on my current AT&T wireless number by WiFi, preferably for free. Ideally, I would like to have this old iPhone (without service), sitting on my desk, ringing when calls come into my current AT&T number, and when I make outgoing calls via Wifi, the caller ID shows my current number. The reason is primarily that AT&T coverage is horrible inside my house, so the ability to do this by wifi at home would be great. But I hate the confusion created when you make outgoing calls and the number is different. I can think of very convoluted ways to do it, so I'm asking you smarties if you have a better way.

Can I use google voice to make calls on my iPhone without a sim card? I have an iPhone and it's connected to wi-fi, and I want to use google voice to make/receive calls from my iPhone. I figured they're must be a way to do this by now, but google failed me.

I have a grandfather in western Oklahoma with great stories, and I'd like to record phone calls with him for later transcription. It seems like there should be a simple, cheap technology solution to this, but I'm having trouble.

My husband is receiving annoying phone calls from his ex (a friend gave his number out without knowing any better). He does not want to change his cell number due to his numerous work contacts. When he sees her number he doesn't answer and then she leaves messages. He has told her to stop but she must be a mental case, she has been calling for 2 months. What would be a solution to this other than changing his number? If he had the number blocked we figure she will just call from another number.

Is it possible to get a recorded prank call and the number on your caller id shows a fake number (business number)? At the end of the recorded message it said something like prank.com but not sure of the exact name. Is there any way to find out where call originated?

I have an iPhone 3g. I jailbroke it pre-OS3 and had tons of dropped calls, so I un-jailbroke it.. I jailbroke it and once again at OS3.13, and after months of no dropped calls, no "no service" and no missed voicemails, suddently I'm getting all three once again right after jailbreaking with spirit. does jailbreak cause more dropped calls?

Has anyone here changed their mind after receiving a call from a campaign phone bank? Alternately, has anyone here who has worked the phone banks had a positive experience, feeling like they were able to connect with and influence one of the people they called?

Can anyone recommend an open-source-protocol-based just-for-home-use VOIP provider & software? I'm pretty sure I don't want Skype, pretty sure I don't want Yahoo Messenger - security issues, not knowing what's really going on with these packages once they're installed, plus the license/privacy/etc. agreements are long and pretty bad.

I'm getting repeated collection calls for somebody who used my phone number when running up high bills. Here's the kicker -- the calls are multiple times a day, and BY COMPUTER. Basically, they're asking ME to call THEM to get this sorted out. Is this legal? Is there anything I can do?

Someone I know is getting multiple phone calls per day to their cell phone from an unlisted "Private Number" (so says the cell screen). The caller hangs up after about 10 seconds without saying anything. Nothing can be heard in the background, except possibly a rustling sound. Because of the nonresponse, it is unclear whether a human is making the call or if it is somehow automated.

Recording calls. I sometimes need to record interviews on my computer, and I've been using CallCorder for the last years. Now I've upgraded my system and I was wondering: is there any free software to do this? I need to grab the sound directly from the modem or via TAPI.
I know there's a program called Coaster, but it only works on Apple machines.
Also: is there a way to test if my modem supports voice (if not, I'll have to use my old modem)?
