I was recently pulled over for having expired tags. The police officer gave me a fix it ticket for the tags, but he also gave me a ticket to schedule a court date for a misdemeanor charge of driving in California with an out-of-state drivers license.
I looked up the legalities, and the California DMV does state that you need to get a new drivers license after 10 days of being in the state of California. I have been driving with my Idaho license here for over a year.
I have scheduled the court date and now I am worried. Is there anything I can do to get out of this? What would be my best course of action?

Are there any good quick references or study guides for experienced drivers from other states (Washington in my case) taking the California drivers license written test? [more inside]

In California, what penalties (civil, administrative, or criminal) might face a "lawyer" who advertises and practices as a lawyer without actually having a license? If I know of such a lawyer, how should I go about reporting him or suing him?

How do I mount a front license plate on my Scion XB? I got a fixit ticket for having only a rear plate, but there's no holes to screw on a front plate. [more inside]

How do you replace a lost learner's permit in California? I read on the DMV's website how to replace a lost license -- you have to make an appointment, pay some money and fill out a whole new application. But what about a lost learner's permit. If I have a photocopy of the original, can I drive with that? Or do I need to go to the DMV and obtain a new permit?
