It's the buzz buzz buzz in the drum of the ear, or, making my amplifier a tinfoil hat to stop GSM noises from my phone.

It's the buzz buzz buzz in the drum of the ear, or, making my amplifier a tinfoil hat to stop GSM noises from my phone. Like many others, I have GSM buzz in my speakers. But, I frequently don't have the option of setting my phone to silent while I'm working, because I'm working on the phone. That leaves the options as a) not getting to listen to music while working, or b) letting hideous noises that come out of my speakers every hour at a much higher volume than the music make me aggro. So, I've done some research (and read the old and inconclusive GSM noise questions here in AskMe) and I've concluded that it's most likely my amplifier lacking shielding. I'm going to put ferrite chokes on my speaker and audio cables just in case, but the main plan of attack is to put a faraday cage around the amp since it's out of sight. What is a good way to construct the cage with the following specs:

1) blocks interference really well,
2) isn't terribly expensive,
3) will last/can be moved (i.e. alternatives to tinfoil),
4) has some possibility of heat dispersal so it doesn't kill the amp.
5) no negative electrical safety implications (I can't imagine what these could be but I thought I'd throw it in there in case there is anything I'm overlooking in this department).

Thank you!

Need advice on a cage for 2 pet rats

Need advice on a cage for 2 pet rats I'm about to get two pet rats (haven't decided if they will be males or females yet) and am looking for a suitable cage for them. I'm looking at the Rat Manor and the The Rat Lodge (R-680) but both are fairly pricey, especially when you add shipping.
Can anyone recommend anything less expensive that would still be roomy enough, chew-proof and safe for the rats? It would be especially great if it were something I could purchase at a store in NYC vs. ordering online, I'm excited and want to get the rats as soon as possible!
As an alternative, is there anything else that could be converted to a suitable rat cage, even if just a temporary one until I get one online (I know fish tanks are often used but I don't have one), or a way that I could build one relatively easily out of something (I'm not totally inexperienced with tools, but I'm afraid sawing heavy duty wire or hammering wood together would be out)

Best way to heat my iguana's enclosure?

I have a full-sized iguana enclosure that needs to be heated more effectively. I've been researching my options and I think that using an infrared heat panel is the best way to go, but I'm not sure what size to get for my enclosure. Reptile enthusiasts needed! The enclosure in question is 5' wide, 4' deep, and 6' tall, and contains several vertical and horizontal spaces for basking and climbing. The enclosure is fronted by a sliding glass shower door, is made of oak veneer plywood, and was built by my father and me about 2 years ago.

The problem we're having is that the room the enclosure in is colder than we'd like, and we're having trouble maintaining the correct heat gradient for our 3 year old iguana, Rethgar. Currently using a 125 watt ceramic heat emitter we can get his basking spot to the required temperature range (90-95 degrees, usually sitting at a comfortable 93), but the problem is that this device does not have a very large radius, and most other areas of the cage are cold enough that Rethgar doesn't like to go in them. This, of course, effectively confines him to the basking spot and doesn't give him very many options for thermoregulating (he can do it effectively and is healthy as far as we can tell, but he just doesn't get to move around very much).

Obviously we'd like him to be able to use the entire space, so we're looking at getting an infrared heat panel like the ones here. I'm just wondering what size we need to get to provide the proper gradient of heat for our setup- preferably the ideal setup would heat the basking area to 93-95 while keeping most of the rest of the cage above 85. Does anybody have experience with large cage heating? I should mention that we're in Minnesota, so ambient temperature is a constant challenge.

Let's hope it beats a pet rock.

where's the best place to get a hamster in London? And a subtle black cage? I'd like to get a hamster. As I'm located in London, it's not as easy as checking out CL and the like. I would like to find some place local that I can go to and check out a variety of hamsters, so make up my mind.

I've heard that the best ones come from hobbyists/breeders, rather than mass-bred pet stores...not sure if this is true!

So, once the hamster is selected... or even -before- it is selected, I'd like to get a black cage for it. I've seen some of the "rodent" cages available online and they are way too colourful and shiny. I would love to find a black metal/mesh/glass cage with tubes flying in all directions.
