I'm currently a rising senior at Harvard University thinking about applying to management consulting positions among others. I was wondering if the MeFi community had any advice or tips regarding what to do to prepare for the interview and what Management Consulting firms look for in an applicant. Any help or advice would be much appreciated; our career service center simply does not offer enough information. Thanks.

I have the reverse problem of most startups... within two years I built a solid and unique brand, with a high media profile and street cred, proven content and products, and a passionate audience of over 240,000 people and growing. But although people congratulate me daily on my success I'm literally exhausted and starving. People circle me daily wanting to "sponsor" me, but I've found most of them want to make money *off* of me, not pay me and help me grow. Fact is, I'm accepting now that I just can't do it all by myself and I don't even WANT to... but I'm a victim of my own quick success. Without a staff and resources I can't expand, grow and monetize as I *need* to in order to meet the demand.

I applied to Company's A and B. After about two weeks of interviews and talking to employees of each, Company A seemed better in nearly all respects. I received informal offers from both yesterday, but Company A specified a salary (which was well within the range I was looking for). I told company B this salary, but an hour or two later learned some things that ruled out company B pretty decisively. This morning Company B calls and offers me 10% more than Company A, and stock options (all other benefits being, afaik, equal). I realize I blew my chance at negotiation, but is there a way I can tactfully mention this to my now-employer, Company A? Could I expect them to offer a bit more, or to consider a raise more readily?

I've finished watching the HBO series "How to Make It in America." Any other shows, movies, books, fiction or nonfiction, like it? You can interpret that pretty broadly, but, basically, one or two guys (or girls) trying to "make it" (in the big city, or not) by tackling something that's kind of out of their league, which is to create a business from scratch.

I was reading up on a book on international marketing and they had a section that summed up cultural business mores per country. Like in South Korea, it's considered an insult if you send an entry-level salesman to meet up with another company's top executive, and in China negotiations continue long after the contract has been signed. It was a short page and I'm looking for books that contain more information like this; it was a very interesting read. Any suggestions?

Hi I am starting a ebooks community site where people can submit their books and then we will publish and sell the books for the authors.
I was wondering if anyone knew a good way to reach independent authors and how to market our site to them? We are looking for writers of self help, recipes, novels, and anything else. We really want to empower writers to get their stuff out their and to help them make some money in the process. Any help on how to find people like that would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I don't want to get screwed, but at the same time, I don't want to be perceived as a jerk. What is the most fair way to divide up the pie? What's the best way to approach this discussion without coming off as a jerk?
