How do you gracefully compete in business with a friend?

We’ve been asked to work on a project. I have a friend who seemed to have their heart set on this same thing. We’re the older, more established company. They’re the younger company but the project is more obviously in their area of interest. They already know they won’t be doing it, but they don’t yet know that we might. What’s the graceful way to handle this situation without incurring unnecessary resentment? [more inside]

London Business Trip Basics

I will be traveling on business to London Sunday to Friday, staying at the Four Seasons on Park and will be working most of my time there. Any down time will be after 5 pm, any suggestions on something to do/eat/see? I visited London when I was young and did many of the touristy things. I am most interested in just enjoying some of the city without making it too complicated. Also, curious about any suggestions of what things I should make sure to pick up in London for myself (sounds like there are so not to miss beauty products) and for co-workers/significant other. I was thinking of the Fortnum & Mason marmalade and possibly Scotch? This is my first time doing a big trip on business, any suggestion in that capacity would also be welcome!

Who/what has inspired you to have more passion and better work ethic?

I'm looking for inspirational stories of people with a vision they're passionate about, and the work ethic to accomplish what they set out to. Tales that make you come away thinking "Yes, that is how I want to be living my life" and charge you up for the work you're doing. They don't have to be people you'd generally admire or seek to emulate - whatever their goals, it's that spark/drive/dedication/grit I'm most interested in. [more inside]

Is there a website like Metafilter for Business Owners?

While you can find forums for just about anything, there seems to be this void for an active small business owners forum. Specifically small businesses with less than 50 employees. I know it would be asking a lot to discover a site like Metafilter, but is there anything out there that comes close?
