How should we make the most of our business trip? Two partners and I are visiting NY next week for a client meeting. (We're normally in London and US West Coast.) We may have a spare couple of days, and I'd like to make those as productive as possible from a networking perspective. Suggestions? (More inside.) [more inside]

How do I pull off the sales event of the year? I have been put in charge of my company’s fiscal year end sale/open house. The purpose of this event is to generate sales (both immediate and future). We sell specialized machinery to hobbyists and professionals. This will be an opportunity for our local customers to come and see our show room and get great end of the year deals. This will also be marketed to our national customers. They will be able to call in and get the same deal as someone attending our event. We have the opportunity to market to several types: people in our database that have purchased a tool from us in the past, people in our database that have a deposit on a machine, people in our database that have expressed interest in our machinery in the recent and far past. I have several questions that hopefully this knowledgeable group can answer. [more inside]

I've started making sorority crafts that have received a pretty good reaction from friends, and I've read a few online tutorials of how to start an online business, but I've found that posters here seem to give the best information. So what advice would you offer in terms of buying a domain, web space, shopping cart utilities, marketing, etc.?

My wife sells Avon. I had the idea that since she goes door to door delivering Avon books and has created a decent client base, I could make up a snazzy flyer with cool products that the men in her customers' lives would find interesting, but probably would not have seen before (i.e. cool stuff found on the net). I don't have a ton of money to pre purchase lots of product, but probably enough to get started small scale. The men would be 30-60 I'd say. Any product Ideas? [more inside]

My aunt just sent me an e-mail linking to a site she set up for "Fortune Hi-Tech Marketing". Before I even brought the home page up, it felt quite a bit like Herbalife and other pyramid schemes just from reading the e-mail. Indeed, one of the first links on Google is a scam.com message board. To save me having to sort through thousands of Fortune Marketing pages on google, does anyone have any personal experience with this company or any information my aunt should be aware of?

I own a very small company, and I feel that my product is the best in its category. If I can just get my message to the masses, my company will be a success (otherwise I'll have to go back to work for "the man"). What's the best way to ge the message out? I realize that everyone is advertising-averse, and I don't want to consider anything that might irritate people.
