And all that...demonic jazz?

Once More With Feeling. No, really, I wanna hear more. I am a Buffy nerd. I was watching the ever fabulous Once More With Feeling episode the other day with my nine year old daughter. (I don't let her watch much; the Buffy/Spike stuff is too much for her. But not for me. Yow.) Anyway, afterward she said to me she would like to hear more music that was similar to Sweet's. You know, the red demon played by Hinton Battle? Heres' a link.
I know nothing of jazz or the like so I came here for recommendations on some similarly styled music. Thanks!

introducing a tween to the buffyverse

is "buffy the vampire slayer" an appropriate gift for a 13-year-old girl? i have a young cousin who will be celebrating her bat mitzvah next year. she's very athletic and creative, and i would love to encourage that "girl power" ethos in her life, especially since she lost her mother to cancer last year.

"buffy" definitely has all the elements that i'm looking for, but i don't have kids, so i'd like to poll the hive mind before making some terrible error in judgment. i know it has some sex and lots of violence, but compared to what's out there now, it seems kind of cartoony and mythic.

fwiw, i was thinking i would just give her the first two or three seasons--if she gets into it, she'll be motivated enough to earn the money to buy the rest. :)

Need Buffy Artifacts

I need help creating a complicated, buffy-themed christmas present for my girlfriend. Problem: I know very little about Buffy. I'm looking for a list (and photos, if possible) of buffy artifacts. I saw this post regarding the kickass alice-in-wonderland themed birthday present, inspired by the art of alex cf.

I'd like to put together a sample kit that was assembled during an investigation into the big Sunnydale explosion that ended the Buffy franchise. I'm trying to collect a list of artifacts to be displayed, and hopefully a format for a map of Sunnydale, as well as fragments of an assembled report. I especially need photos, and suggestions for what the sample tags might say. Help make for an awesome christmas gift.

I want to give her a Gift, but without all the dying twice.

Buffy Birthday Gift Filter: Ack! I got my dates mixed up, and my friend's birthday is this Saturday, not next! Help me think of Buffy The Vampire Slayer themed (not necessarily branded) gift ideas. Looking for stuff that'd be easy to find in the next day or so. Here's what I've got planned so far...
I had plans to order a few more things for her big bag of fun online but now there's no time! She's a huge BtVS and Angel fan and owns all the box set seasons on DVD, the original movie, etc. She loves Spike & Angel the most.

Right now I'm planning on giving her a big white box marked, I think appropriately, as 'The Gift'. Inside right now are the first two collections of the BtVS season 8 comics. And... well... right now, that's all that's in there. I'm thinking of buying a bottle of Vampire Wine if I can still find it, and maybe some wax fangs. I'd like some other ideas of items that might be related to the show, but not necessarily branded for the show (meaning, a product that gets mentioned or was important in the show at some point).

Any ideas are appreciated!

Seeking wisdom from the Buffyverse.

Help me find a line of Buffy dialogue! There's a scene where Willow is complaining about something to Buffy and Buffy tries to offer advice or a solution. Willow gets upset and says she just wants someone to listen or empathize. And Buffy says something along the lines of, "Oh is this a feel my pain talk? I thought it was a help me find a solution talk. My bad." Except, you know, the actual line is much snappier.

This just happened with a friend of mine who got laid off and didn't want to hear about a job posting I saw, just wanted to mope. I managed to find this exact line of dialogue a couple of years ago when I had similarly misjudged the intent of a friend, but I remember it took forever and bugged the hell out of me in the meantime.

My memory of the line is too vague for good googling, and I don't have time now to watch all 7 seasons in a totally OCD search for the answer. (Although my instincts are telling me it was season 2-3.)

This is one of those things that is not important but will drive me insane until I figure it out.

What a warm, loving family...

I'm looking for some films/TV shows that revolve around the concept of family, especially the "created family". I loved Buffy. I loved Angel. I really really loved Firefly. I also quite liked Six Feet Under. Fraiser was kind of interesting. But I hated the Soprano's.

What films or TV shows might I like, where the central theme is a group of disparate strangers being lumped together to form a cohesive unit - a "family"?

The outside details (being in a spaceship/fighting monsters/whatever) aren't vitally important. If the shows are available to rent on DVD (in the UK, though I figure that shouldn't be too much of an issue), that would be great too.

Name a blog!

BuffyFilter! I need a name for a blog about Buffy. Calling all Buffy fans. Please suspend any and all criticism of how this may have already been done to death (because I know it has), but, let's say two friends were going to start a blog of episode reviews, critiques and random chatter about Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the television series, NOT the movie) and possibly Angel. It plans to be smart, interesting, fun and not take itself too seriously. It would also be a kind of point-counterpoint, which each contributer offering his/her opinions (rather than two people writing in one unified voice if you catch me).

What names would you suggest for the blog? Ideally it would be a play on a Buffyism. That said, we would think about something totally unrelated to a Buffyism if it was a rad idea. (Although a play on a quote, plotline, character or something else from the Buffyverse seems to be where we're headed).

We'd love any ideas that that would also be sort of descriptive of the blog, of criticism, of writing, etc. For example, "Strangely Literal," is a phrase taken from a line of dialog that fits well with the medium of blogging or with the idea of thinking about/critiquing a t.v. show. I don't know if that really gets the idea across. If it totally doesn't let me know and I will pipe in again.

I'm not sure if people would want credit for their idea if its used, but I don't see why that would be a problem.

I know this is a tall order so anything and everything is very appreciated.

Chicago Movie/TV Fandoms (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, BSG, Trek, Gen Scifi)?

How can I get in touch with television and movie fandom in Chicago? I wanted to follow up on an earlier question of mine in which I asked for Chicago geek group activities/social events. Although I got a satisfactory bunch of answers, I thought I might expand on it a little more and see if I might get some additional pointers that weren't touched upon in the original question's answer.

Specifically, I'm wondering about Chicago geek culture as it centers around some television and movie fandoms — for example, Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Battlestar Galactica (current series), and Trek — and/or general science fiction/fantasy fandom (such as those who like Asimov, Bradbury, etc.).

Essentially, if you think of the wide array of geekdom that you might find at a science fiction convention, that's the kind of groups and people I'd like to meet up with. (Similarly, if there's a website which offers a good, thorough listing of upcoming Chicago conventions, that'd be cool, too.)

(I'm interested in non-fandom Chicago socialization, too, but I've found good resources about that, including my own earlier question, this Ask Mefi question, and a few good Chicago resources (example). I'm just having some trouble digging stuff up on those particular areas. Although Meetup.Com has yielded some leads to follow, I'm thinking Ask Mefi's wisdom of the commons might yield some more reliable suggestions and or tips.

Buffy and Angel

I've recently become addicted to Buffy. But now I am up to season four and have a dilemma. I am planning on going back and forth between Buffy and Angel, but I don't know which to watch first, since they appear to have aired on the same night. I know there are some crossover episodes, so I don't want to mess that up. Could somebody tell me which order to watch in? P.S. I tried a little googling, but I got scared when the first link I selected had some damn spoilers.
