Pick A Place To Party

I want to rent an event space in NYC. Where do I start? It's basically a wedding reception without the wedding, I'd like it to hold about eighty people, with an open bar and using my own caterers. It should be three hours booked at least. I'd like it in Manhattan but totally open to nearer Brooklyn and Queens. What do I need to know and where should I go in getting a space for late October? What's a good NYC-based company for printing menus?

The bakery/café I work for is looking for a good company to print our menus. We're looking to print "tall" menus. I'm sorry this is so vague, but I don't know the measurements or name of the type of menu. If I had to guess I'd say ~8" x ~4" — you know, the kind you often see in restaurants/cafés/delis, etc, often with a trifold. We're most likely doing just a double sided piece of paper, though. We're located in Brooklyn, so we'd be looking for a company somewhere here or in Manhattan.

My kingdom for a couch (that could fit through the entrance)

I just moved into a dream wonderful "garden apartment" in a brownstone. The only downside is that it has an entryway that forces you to make a u-turn to get into the apartment. Normally, not a problem. But we need to buy a couch. A regular sized, real, adult persons not-dormroom style nice couch. And there's no way anybody could possibly maneuver one into here. Is there any places that sell couches that are nice but also can be partially disassembled? Even if just the arms could be taken off it would be great. [more inside]

The ladies are having a bridal shower, the guys are...

My fiance and her lady friends and family are getting together tomorrow for a bridal shower in our Brooklyn apartment. That leaves the guys (all different ages and all different interests) in the family with the chance to go hang out and do male-bonding stuff. I'm going to check to see if there are any interesting sporting events on tv tomorrow afternoon, but that aside, what should we do that will be fun and low-key? Bonus if the place is relatively close to a G train stop. [more inside]
