Working in Brooklyn

A friend of mine has received a job offer in the Flatbush Avenue/Brooklyn College area of Brooklyn -- the last stop on the #5 train. She knows nothing of this area, and wants to know if it's a safe area to work, and whether the commute back to Manhattan (often at night) will be a concern.
