Will be moving to the Mission, trying to decide between my internet options. Monkeybrains is cheap, local, awesome, but not as fast as Comcast, who suck, are expensive, but very fast. Do you have experience with either? [more inside]

So I recently moved, and as I always do, got an account with Time Warner (who are pretty much the only option in the part of Austin where I live). I noticed that my IP was resolving as either "earthlink.net" or "mindspring.com" when it should be "austin.rr.com", but didn't think much of it. However, today I found a letter in the mail containing "important information about your EarthLink account." Wot's, uh, the deal? [more inside]
Virgin Media cable broadband sucks, what provider can I use after my contract is up? [more inside]
Why can't I access www.fireflyfans.net from my home PC? I just get a 'Internet Explorer (7) cannot display the webpage'. I can get it at work, so I know it's still there, just not at home. I'm on Virgin (ex-NTL) cable (going through a router), and I can get everywhere except this one site. And I *love* Firefly, dammit!
Can someone suggest cheap ($15/mo) broadband in zip 12208? Verizon DSL 768kbps is unavailable there. [more inside]

My father-in-law (retired blue-collar aluminum worker, widowed, fixed-income, screwed out of health benefits when his former corporate employer filed bankruptcy) has an old Win 98 computer. Last year I installed major upgrades and switched him to Redhat Linux. All was well until Cox Cable swapped his old cable modem for a Webstar that is not Linux compatible. Can I get him back on Cox Cable with Redhat Linux without having to buy a new computer? Would a new cable modem work and if so, what brand?
I live in NYC, and had AOL for Broadband for my internet service provided to me through Time Warner. AOL recently waived their fee's and is now free. I am left paying Tie Warner about $45 bux a month for broadband service.....I wanna find something cheaper, yet just as fast and efficient... [more inside]
