I'd like to work in London but I have no idea where to start! I'm a British citizen, age 30, but I've grown up in Australia. I'm looking for any kind of work that pays the bills. Policy work would be especially nice (I have some experience there) but temping/office jobs would be fine too. Can you recommend me some agencies and websites where I can start, and also any other hints and tips for first-timers to the London/UK job market!

My girlfriend and I want to do that 'public display of commitment' thing, but we don't want to get married
. Heterosexual Civil Partnerships
are not yet available in the UK. Can we do it elsewhere with legal status? Or should we wait? [more inside]

Question about flat rental in England. A friend and I will soon be moving out of our current places and sharing a flat together. I'll need to sign a contract for a flat while he's out of the country. How can we end up in a situation where we're both on the tenancy agreement with equal status, as if he'd been present to sign originally? [more inside]

how can I watch BBC's iPlayer in the US? A one-step solution is ideal, without having to install and configure a system-wide proxy (which is the current way I can think of doing it). Some software or plugin custom-setup for iPlayer?

A few years back, my friend Russell (mid-twenties, American, white, male) was in Scotland, at a bus stop. It was late at night, he'd been drinking, and some guy (mid-twenties, British, white, male) came up and angrily asked him "Are you of Scottish descent?" Russell raised his hands and eyebrows in a confused "Whoa, no idea what you're on about" gesture and said, "Buddy, you got the wrong guy." The man then punched Russell in the face. WHY? [more inside]

My British employer overpaid me back in June 2008 to the tune of £1k. I pointed this out at the time, but never heard from anyone. Now it's December, and they want the money back.
However, I've heard that I can contest this, on the grounds that the employer made a mistake, and that it's illegal to force employees to rectify companies' mistakes.
Is this true? And what legalese can I quote? :)

So, I've agreed to drive a group of people to Longleat Safari Park
this weekend. It's been in the diary for months, but the weather forecast
is not good.
If you've been to Longleat before - is the bad weather going to spoil the trip? should we reschedule?

GoogleFuFailureFilter: I am looking for free transcripts of UK (Westminster) Parliamentary debates for around 1969-1980. Specifically, I'm looking for discussions about Northern Ireland. Astonishingly, I can't find them after a full day of looking, not even on the Westminster website, which seems only to go back as far as 1988. How is this possible? Help!

UK Credit Filter - We have bad credit, and now our bank have decided that they want to close my accounts. So in order to be paid, and pay bills...I have to find a new current account. My wife and I know that we can fix our problems with money (and have been doing well for 3 months) - but we cannot seem to find a bank that will open a current account for us.
So for UK askMe people - do you know of a current account that will AT LEAST give us the benefit of the doubt?

Finding more than Nemo: aided by innumerable viewings of Finding Nemo and the Little Mermaid, my three-year old's fascination with the aquatic world continues, fuelled by a lovely trip to the small-ish but very impressive Mote Marine Laboratory
while in Florida a few months ago. However: we're in the UK, where - despite being surrounded by water - good quality aquariums seem rather thin on the ground (sic). Can anyone recommend good places of this kind (educational, subjects well looked after)? Is the London Aquarium good?
