Experiencing shortness of breath. Looking for some guidance

On Saturday while kayaking in the bay, I experienced shortness of breath for about ten minutes, which then went away. The last time I’d experienced this feeling was nearly 20 years ago when I was 12, when I last had asthma. [more inside]

Help me find meditation clip, please.

What are your favourite guided meditation recordings? I am looking at around twenty minutes and a fair amount of variety as I'd like to do this daily. Unless, of course, you've found that keeping to the same tape every time has a positive effect. [more inside]

I breathe deeply and their muscles relax. Why?

Please explain the science behind this phenomenon. I want to know about the effect MY deep breathing has on the release of my clients' muscle tension. I have experienced and observed distinct differences between when I am deeply breathing, and when I default to shallow chest breathing. When I breathe deeply, their muscles release tension and relax, opening more and "melting" more to my work. It's quite remarkable. [more inside]

Anxiety or something worse?

Wife has shortness of breath- should we be worried? My wife is 29 and physically healthy (eats relatively well and exercises), but recently has shortness of breath on and off. It doesn't seem like a panic attack, as she has no other panic attack symptoms. However, she starts to get scared when its happening which makes it worse. It happens throughout the day on and off for a few weeks and then stops for months at a time. Could this just be stress, or something more serious?

Cat Pee Cardio

Will exercising in a poorly ventilated basement near a cat's litterbox have any detrimental effects on my health or the quality of my workout? (Aside from the unpleasantness). Should I be worried about breathing heavily in this environment? Moderate-to-vigorous cardio (elliptical) plus heavy-ish weight training, about 30-40 minutes 5x per week.

Puff, puff, OWWWWWWW

All my life I've had this problem when doing any sort of cardio activity: my throat can stand my breathing for about 15 seconds before it starts to burn like hell. I've tried breathing differently, asking for medical advice, drinking various beverages before/during/after working out... nothing. It's happened when I've been in better shape and when I'm a lazy slob. So I avoid cardio, which I have always desperately needed. How can I overcome this and work out pain-free? [more inside]

Help us breathe or help us leave

It's two am on Christmas morning and my wife and I haven't slept because we feel we are suffocating from all the cigarette smoke in my parent's house. This is our first night of four, and my wife is upset, wondering if she can maybe sleep in the car (it's minus twenty outside, so no). How can we make this bearable, or, failing that, how can we explain to my parents that we have to leave already? [more inside]

How can I clear my sinus problem?

Help me breathe! The older I get, the more sinus trouble I have. Almost every morning I wake up with a semi-headache because one of my nasal passages is entirely blocked. This isn't a seasonal thing, nor does it seem to be allergy-related. During the day it clears up, but at night, I must depend upon nasal spray (the kind you're not supposed to use too consistently). Should I take the plunge and go see a doctor? Or is there some miracle drug I can get over the counter?
