Every day I make a cup of instant oatmeal at the office. This is the ideal breakfast setup for me - quick, easy, cheap, low-calorie, fairly non-perishable food that I can store in my desk drawer - except I'm not sure it's all that healthy. Is there a nutrient-rich alternative to this? [more inside]
So I've decided that I need to make my own damn cereal. I DO NOT WANT HOT CEREAL. I want to know how I can make my own COLD cereal, which can be used as the base for milk and blueberries. [more inside]
I'd really like to go out to breakfast on Christmas morning, without having to venture downtown or Capitol Hill. Looking for a place in Ballard, Greenwood, Phinney Ridge, Broadview, even Shoreline. Anyone know a place that would be open, or a place that has been open in prior years that I can call to check? Thanks! (Prefer a regular breakfast joint vs a fancy set-menu brunch.)
I need to plan/make breakfast for 8 people on Saturday at my brother's flat. What should I make or do? There are complications including dietary restrictions, travel and lack of equipment. [more inside]

I love breakfast tacos! I eat them a lot. If I eat the exact same combination of ingredients every time it gets boring; thankfully there are endless combinations. Help me think of every ingredient that would be tasty in a breakfast taco. [more inside]
Over the last couple weeks, my 6-year-old daughter has threatened on several occasions not to eat breakfast. She isn't saying that she's not hungry. Rather, she tries to get us to change some parental decision by saying she won't eat breakfast unless we give in and let her watch her show (or whatever it is.) I don't want her thinking that restricting her food intake is a way to get ahead. Can you provide some advice? [more inside]
What is your favorite yummy thing to make for breakfast in bed? I have eggs, bread for toast, a good amount of spices, and most other options. I need recipes, but nothing involving raw food or rare ingredients.
I'm looking for breakfast, lunch, and dinner ideas for my 14-month-old. Help me out of my toddler food rut! We are both sick of rice cakes with peanut butter on them. [more inside]

I thought about switching up my breakfast routine this week and decided to hard boil some eggs and eat some fish with it. At the store, I bought a package of "smoked, salted herring". After breakfast this morning, I realized they are not really edible as-is. What do I do with them? [more inside]
I've been stuck in a multigrain Cheerios + sweetened soy milk + scrambled egg rut for wayyy too long. I'd like to eat healthier, filling breakfasts with whole grains, and learn to like savory foods for breakfast as well. Details inside! [more inside]

I have about 15-20 minutes to eat breakfast every morning, and when I walk into the kitchen I often have no idea what to eat. This is because I'm really sensitive to sugary things in the morning and the thought of eating cereal / toast with jam or pb or honey / pancakes / crumpets / pikelets / muffins / whatever makes me queasy. So I really crave savoury things! But I don't know many savoury breakfast foods, and often I don't have enough time to make them e.g. bacon and eggs. And there are only so many times a week I can eat toast without wanting to cease existing. If you have any great recipes for savoury breakfast foods that can be prepared and eaten quickly, or that can be prepared the night before and then be thrown together quickly, I'd love to hear them! Bonus points for hot foods. Caveat: I don't like eggs just by themselves. [more inside]
I'm trying to lose weight at the moment and could do with some help optimizing my food intake. [more inside]
We're going to be in Monterey, CA, this afternoon, and staying overnight. Tonight is our fourth wedding anniversary - where should we go for some nice but not crazy expensive seafood tonight? And any recommendations for breakfast places? Thanks!
Due to some changes in my life, I need to start getting up earlier in the morning. Problem is, I am a lazybones and I LOVE to sleep. In fact, I normally WAKE UP and start the day at 8 AM, and soon I will need to report to work at that time. I need to go to work looking very polished and feeling great. This means I need to start showering in the morning and eating breakfast before I go into work. This is going to mean a change in the way I deal with mornings. Please help me make this change as painless as possible. [more inside]
What Avengers-themed breakfast can I cook for my daughter's birthday this weekend? It doesn't have to be a recipe featured in the films, anything inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be fine. [more inside]
Basically, that's it. Sometimes I don't have time to eat breakfast, so I drink some 10% cream to tide me over. It's got some fat and protein making it relatively filling, and way less sugar than meal replacement drinks or fruit smoothies or juice. But when people see me do it, they freak out about how unhealthy it is. Is it really? [more inside]
Wanted: breakfast ideas that can be entirely prepped the night before, and eaten in the car on the way to work. Go! [more inside]
I foolishly committed to having my parents over for Christmas breakfast, the day after we are hosting 10 people in our tiny apartment for Christmas Eve. I'd like to make a baked French toast where I can whip it up the night before, leave it in the fridge overnight, and just pop it in the oven in the morning. I figure that plus bacon plus fruit and we're done. But I've never made baked French toast! Please point me toward your favorite recipes and share any tips you might have. Thanks!
I always have trouble finding good things to eat for breakfast, but I suddenly remembered tofu scramble! Lots of protein, not sweet, can be made ahead, and capable of many variations. Perfect. So please tell me, what's your favorite version? [more inside]

Am I gaining all the nutritional value from oats, quinoa, and flax seeds which I've ground fine and stirred into food? Does cooking these foods unlock beneficial nutrients that I'm not getting by simply grinding and eating uncooked? And: How much flax seed daily to get the needed good-guy omega-3 and omega-6 fats from them? [more inside]

I've recently cut wheat and dairy products out of my diet, and need some creative ideas/recipes for both breakfast and lunch. Vegetarian and meat/fish-containing suggestions are equally welcome. The higher-protein, the better. Easy recipes please since my cooking-fu is minimal. Since I eat lunch at work a couple of days a week, I want something easily portable (by bike) and ideally not requiring reheating (there's a microwave at work, but it's a bit inconvenient for me to use). Breakfast has no such constraints since I eat it at home (I usually eat scrambled eggs for breakfast, but this is getting old). Bonus points for recipes containing tahini, since I was recently given some excellent organic tahini but the usual method of using it as a dip with bread is obviously out.
I'm looking for some delicious, filling vegan, gluten-free breakfasts and lunches that are relatively low-starch and don't use too many fake meats. [more inside]

I am starting a new corporate job in the city next week after working in a casual semi-rural office for the past 2 years, where I could make toast for breakfast whenever I felt like it. I can't eat within the first hour of waking up so am looking for some great breakfast smoothies/drinks I can make that I can drink on the train to work that will actually fill me up until lunch time. My wife loves hash brown casserole and I was going to whip up a batch this weekend for her but all the recipes I can find call for a bag of frozen shredded hash browns while I have a 7lb bag of whole potatoes. Is there any major difference between using frozen bagged hash browns and shredding up a few potatoes of my own?
