Help! I'm going crazy over a song I know, heard a part of in a restaurant today - and can't put a name to. Can any of you help me name this song?
The song is ska-ish, I would say nineties, not so fast for a ska song (maybe 80-100 bpm?)
The riff that sticks in my mind is a horn riff, starting with 2 very accented half notes at the beginning of the bar (same note), then 3 beats of staccato unaccented quarter notes (varying notes).
I know that's not much to work with - but I'd be forever indebted! Thanks!

My partner's Grandma recently passed away, and my partner kept this brass head that she owned as a memento, because he'd always been drawn to it as a kid. Can you tell us anything about it? Pics inside!

When a friend's grandfather died, the family found a drawer full of mysterious brass disks. The grandfather had a lot of random scrap metal and other odd items around the house and grounds. The disks are pretty much identical and appear to be brass. My friend told me that at some point someone brought one to a jeweler or something and they were told that the disks were brass with a small amount of gold mixed in.

I have a brass
gas line manifold for a draft beer system that has developed a hairline crack. To fix it, I'm contemplating one of the following: (a) fill/wick with solder using a plumber's propane torch;
(b) JB Weld epoxy; or (c) asking a friend to weld it (hi MrMoonPie!).
Thoughts?

Hi, folks! I'd just like to ask, out of curiosity, which wind instruments (especially brass) require the least effort and wind. I'm thinking of taking up something, but proper breathing is not my strong suit and I'm looking for something less taxing to build it up on. Any help with this query will be most appreciated!

[New-Classical-Music Filter] What are your favorite pieces from the last few decades (or have you written anything) for solo trumpet, trombone, bass tbn, or tuba? Seeking scores and/or recordings to study (online availability would be a huge plus). Small-chamber works, other than brass quintet, would be great too. Asking because I haven't written for brass insts. except in orchestra/large-ensemble contexts, and I want to explore solo/chamber writing for them. Yes, I'll also get what I can from newmusicjukebox. Thanks!

Years ago, when I needed money badly, I sold my beautiful Selmer tenor sax...I went into another branch of the arts, but lately I've been fooling around with a friend's horn, and I'm really enjoying playing. I don't intend to do anything but amuse myself and maybe play with some like-minded buddies - mostly traditional jazz, some soul horn section type stuff, but definitely no Smooth Jazz or Wailing Rock.
The problem is I can't really justify the big bucks replacing my Selmer would cost...and I'm spoiled, of course, by the horn I once owned. Any advice for tenor horns under $1,000 - new or used? How about $2,000? I know the proof is still in the playing and trying, but I'd love some help getting started.
thanks!
