Ongoing Despair Despite Getting Lots of Treatment

Hey all, I've been getting lots of treatment (4x week) for C-PTSD/incest and BPD, and yet nothing is working. All meds on the market have been tried except for one MAOI. Ketamine infusions have been done. Inpatient hospitalization was very traumatizing and inhumane. Nothing works. I'm at the point where I don't really know who I am anymore and I feel hopeless about any future; nothing interests me at all. I can barely go through the motions to make my rent and feed myself. What can I do?

How to have a compassionate distancing from a stressful friend?

Is spontaneous recovery from Borderline Personality Disorder a thing?

For 5-6 months last year, my daughter was falling apart. Symptoms included extreme hostility, depression, inability to focus on simple tasks, insomnia. She was virtually incapable of caring for herself, so I moved in with her. She was taken to the ER 6 times between July and Oct and hospitalized for 3-7 days each time (4 different university affiliated Chicago hospitals). Diagnoses included PTSD, anxiety disorder(s), Bipolar, and Borderline Personality Disorder. (I first wrote about these issues here.) Then the crisis passed and within a matter of weeks, these labels no longer seemed applicable. So, what happened? [more inside]

Seeking: Boston-area psychiatric care; a treatment plan; hope

I have a pile of treatment-resistant psychiatric symptoms, a long list of possible diagnoses given to me by different doctors over the years (including various mood disorders, ADHD, autism, and borderline personality disorder), and nearly a decade's worth of history with different psychiatrists trying different med combos with limited success. I want a knowledgeable professional who is a good diagnostician and listens well to help me dig through this shit and work out a treatment plan that makes sense. Can you recommend someone like that in the Boston area? [more inside]

Is "affordable apt, MTM, Chicago-metro, ASAP" REALLY to much to ask?

My daughter (mid-20s) is going through a very difficult time and I'm busy with a bazillion related issues. I'm hoping that an affordable one-bedroom apartment, month-to-month lease, available now/very shortly, ideally near Northwestern or within a mile of a CTA/Metra stop will just magically drop in my lap. (If you knew what this month has been like, I bet you all wouldn't think this is too much to ask.) [more inside]

Occupational therapy for borderline personality disorder?

Do you have any resources (ideally online) where I can find info on the role of the occupational therapist (OT) with day hospital patients with borderline personality disorder? Benefit points for anything about interventions that have a research/evidence base? (these seem very thin on the ground!) I am also interested in how OT's/mental health staff generally work with BPD/similar within therapeutic communities, any evidence for this and the role of group schema therapy/evidence gained about this approach?

Just been told by my boyfriend that he thinks I have BPD. What now?

My boyfriend sat me down tonight and suggested I might have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). He is going to stay at a friends house now since our interactions cause him so much stress. We have been together 5 1/2 years, living together for half of that, a time we both agree has been frustrating and has left us with deep unmet needs. I want to hear him out but I feel confused as this assessment blindsided me. [more inside]

Borderline Personality Boundary Setting Resources?

I have a sister w/Borderline Personality. My father has completely cut her off to protect himself. My mother tries to keep the door open as she can, but has learned to set limits. I haven't talked to her on the phone in like a year, though I try to be supportive and let her know I love her via facebook now and then, just so she doesn't feel too alone/sad. She's been mostly decent about respecting my boundaries. However, my nephew (her son), just posted "Some people in the family need to step up -- getting calls and emails about suicide from my mom every 6 hours is draining. Grandparents cut off contact with her (which is only partly true, it's that mom doesn't give as much attention as my sister who demands demands demands attention wants), and I can't keep doing this. Tips for me to talk to him? (i.e. resources for him to learn to set boundaries, ways to think about the manipulations, etc...) [more inside]

How can I try to help a depressed, possibly borderline, friend who's trying to isolate herself?

My friend is deeply depressed and is trying to cut herself off from me and her other friends. How can I try to help her? Key questions: 1) Any suggestions on how to try to convince her that I genuinely want to stick around and be her friend and it's not just out of obligation, and/or other other ways to respond to her trying to push me away? 2) She's given up on hope of any treatment or improvement-- I think she might be borderline and that DBT could be a good fit for her regardless-- any suggestions of what I could send her about DBT and/or BPD (or anything else) that would have the best chance of getting through to her and giving her hope that things can get better?
