I want to add feet to my boxspring instead of buying a bed frame - is there any reason I shouldn't just screw pieces of 2"x4" direct to the wood of the boxspring? [more inside]
Can you put a mattress on a split box spring directly on the floor, or do we really need to get another bedframe? [more inside]
My boyfriend's mattress is about 6 years old, and he's a tosser. When I sleep over and he tosses and turns it keeps me up, and it sucks. I'm not sure if it's the mattress or the boxspring - he thinks mattress. Let's say getting a new mattress is not in the immediate future - will a memory foam cover help us? Is there any thing else you can think of? I'm guessing not really, but sometimes there are innovative suggestions around here. [more inside]
I want to get my full size mattress up off the floor-- what is the best way to accomplish this given my space constraints? [more inside]
We just got a nice new mattress. It came with a box spring. We were using our old mattress on an IKEA bed (the Redalen, which I guess they don't sell anymore) with their cheap wooden slats, the Sultan Lade, as support. All things being equal, we'd stick with the IKEA bed and slats. But are all things equal? Are there advantages to using the box spring instead of the slats?
I'm furnishing my apartment on a truly shoestring budget, and need to buy a bed for the first time. I know nothing about buying beds besides the concepts of frames, mattress and boxsprings (well, that and buying new to avoid bedbugs). What kinds of factors should I be considering? Where and how should I be buying my bed? What's a reasonable price? Please educate me! This is in the U.S.A. [more inside]
My now-wife (then-girlfriend) purchased a new queen-sized mattress from Macy's about 3 years ago. We've recently noticed that the bed is sagging on both sides where we sleep, and the middle and sides are firmer and the way they were when she purchased it. It has a split box spring so that it could fit up her narrow staircase in her former apartment. We no longer have that restriction. So, is this the fault of the split box spring (and should we replace it with a normal one), or is it simply a problem with the mattress? What can we do to fix it, if anything? [more inside]
Box Springs: Should I keep it? Edition: Should we put the brokenish box springs (twin, two for a king) back on, or get new ones? [more inside]
My Sleepy's mattress & box spring make creaking noises when I make the slightest movement in bed, help me successfully return or exchange them! [more inside]
We have put a futon on top of a (very crappy) mattress base. Is this a bad idea? [more inside]
My wife and I stayed overnight at a hotel a few weekends ago and came to the realization that our bed is truly horrific. Help us buy a new mattress! (details inside) [more inside]
I'm buying a bed for the first time and just got the mattress. Should I get a boxspring and bed frame, or just a bed frame or platform bed (same as bed frame?)? I was considering this ikea frame so it looks easy to disassemble when I move.
I want to get the box spring and mattress off the floor without buying a bed frame. [more inside]
How gross is a used mattress? Is there a way to determine "how used" a mattress is? If I got a used mattress with no visible urine/ejaculate/other(?) stains on it, and covered it with a nice thick mattress pad, would you think less of me? [more inside]
If I have a good mattress and a frame that supports it, do I really need a boxspring? [more inside]
What is pushing bedroom design from tall beds, box springs and mattress, to the 4 inches off the floor platform beds? Is it cost, maybe style that moves from space conscious Tokyo/New York, or an architect's fad? Something else?
