My single malt top preference is for fairly tradiitonal peatty Islay malts. I very much enjoy most of the Laphroaig outputs and love the 16 year old Lagavulin - I can take or leave Bruichladdich and have no interest in the trend for super peatty malts. I am looking to expand my tastes into bourbon but have little experience. Given that love of Laphroaig and Lagavulin, what bourbons might most appeal?

I'm heading to Scotland in a few months and I'd like to give my host, who's a fan of Scotch (or just whisky, there) a gift of good American Bourbon. My criteria are that it's a very good bourbon, and that it's a bourbon that he couldn't get there in Scotland. I don't know anything about bourbon, though. Want to help me out?

How do I go about finding the re-sale value of bottles of whiskey / bourbon? My father has a fair number of old whiskey and bourbon bottles he has picked up over his years of travelling. He wants to find out if they are worth anything, or if he should just drink them?
One of the bottles he's got us this
one? Is it actually worth that much on the private market? How would he go about selling it? Ebay?

I often want to head somewhere with a friend in Brooklyn or Manhattan for a quiet bourbon or two in a dark setting. Nothing snobby. Dives are great. But somewhere that two people can sit at a table and chat, in a somewhat disarming setting. I love bourbon, and I want to share my love of bourbon with new friends in charming or crappy settings. I'm a bit of a hermit, so I just don't get out enough to find new places!

I'm having a whiskey party tonight. There will be a mix of scotches, bourbons, and other whiskeys, single-malt and blended. It will not be a dinner party but I'd like to provide some hors d'oeuvres and possibly desserts. I've heard sushi is good with whiskey so I thought lox might work, and this
