Denver in a Day

Boulder? Denver? Help me day-trip to Colorado *THIS* Saturday! So I snatched up an interesting offer: Frontier Airlines had PHX->DEN same-day roundtrip for $59, inclusive. (No add'tl taxes or fees, available ONLY for this Saturday, and only for an hour, at that!)

We arrive in DEN at 9:24am and we depart at 9:20pm.

We *may* have a ride from the airport, but what's the cheapest way to downtown Denver (or Boulder) if not? Where's best to land if we want to get around the city relatively easily once we do, assuming no car?

What's there to see and do for fun eating on a Saturday? Which would you recommend to make the best use of our time? We probably need to be back at the airport by 8:15 at the latest, so take that into account. (No checked bags, clearly.)

I like photography, museums, good food, fun art, cool people, markets, fairs, weird off-the-beaten path stuff, and anything else going. I'll have my brother in tow, who's also down for pretty much anything.

Help plan my one-day itinerary, and understand that very little is a bust for us; it was a $60 thing, so why not, right?

Thanks!

What are some vegan restaurants in Colorado?

Are there any vegan or vegan-friendly restaurants in or around the following places in Colorado: Denver, Boulder and Breckenridge? The boyfriend and I will be in Colorado in September. He's somewhat familiar with those three areas since he lived among those places for 12 years but he hasn't lived in Colorado for about 5. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there are any other suggestions for things other things that we should do or see, those suggestions are welcomed also, thanks!

Need Colorado Info Please

I need advice/info about the best neighborhoods/school districts in Boulder/Denver Co. Hi all, my good friends are making a quick move from GA to the Boulder/Denver, Co area. They have a high schooler and elementary age children. This is happening really fast and they need some advice about where to look to rent for a year. They want a nice area for families and a good school system. They want to buy after they sell here in GA so they need advice on a neighborhood that they can stay in for a while. Any advice about where to look would be appreciated. They have job possibilities in both cities so all info on both areas appreciated. Thanks all!!

Give me a reason to not go to Boulder

I think the mothership may be in Boulder, Co and I have a burning desire to go there. I'm so in love with the place that I'm probably missing the bad stuff. Is there anything bad about Boulder? Boulder seems to me to be about as progressive as I can get without going to San Francisco. It feels like Austin used to feel. (And parts of Austin still do.) But I cannot take another summer in Texas.

I want to live somewhere where there are tons of trees and nature, access to astounding education channels from kindergarten through doctorate programs. An active arts community, progressive politics, and an amazing public library are all things that are on my "really want" list, and Boulder seems to fill all of them. As well, there seems to be a solid job market for code slingers, which makes my husband happy.

So, what am I missing? What are the deep dark secrets that are horrible about Boulder? Anything?

What song is this?

What folky song is about the things we used to say/do, but don't say/do anymore? When I was in Boulder, it was, maybe 11am or noon on March 7th, I heard this song on the radio. Somewhere in the middle of the dial that was playing some folky, independent stuff (though I can't recall the exact station).

The song was on the radio just before lunch, but I can only remember vague details. Lead singer with guitar, craggy but prevalent vocals, kinda like Tom Waits or Nick Cave; had some (light) background vocals. The lyrics were a repeating pattern, something like, "We used to say, {catchy quote}. {Anecdote about rambunctious youth calling for that catchy quote}. But now we're older, and we don't say that thing anymore." Repeat with different catchy quote or maxim.

I know this is vague, anyone have any hints?

Erisa Attorney position in Boulder, Co?

My SO and I are contemplating fleeing California for Boulder. Co because of the high housing prices. I am an ERISA attorney who represents large traditional pension funds. I like my job. I think my chances of finding a firm with an ERISA practice in Boulder are slim to nil. I've googled, etc., but I thought I'd ask here in case anyone knows of anything. Denver is out of the question because of the long commute. Also, I've seen some corporate / transactional practices in Boulder. Could I make the transition from ERISA to corporate work (it's not something I ever even contemplated until now)? Any help is much appreciated

Headed to Boulder, Colorado with the Wifey for 4 days starting late next Monday... What to do? What to see? What to eat? (Bonus for gluten/dairy free options!) The Wifey and I will be headed to Boulder next week for a work conference for me but we will have lots of free time... We will be there Tues/Wed/Thurs and and little of Friday. We plan on doing the Celestial Seasonings tour, some biking, and some walking/hiking. We enjoy good places to eat, though not too expensive, if possible.

Where should I, a gluten and dairy intolerant person, eat? Wife can eat anything. We are not vegetarian, but we like vegetarian food, too.

Specific fun coffeehouses? Bars? Dessert places? Indie rock venues anywhere?

Any other crazy or fun stuff within walking distance of the St. Julien hotel (where my eSource conference is at)? How does the bus system work? Let me know. THANKS!

Are there really no good gay bars in Boulder, CO? One of my best friends just moved out to Boulder for graduate school, and the last time I spoke to him he complained that there was only one gay bar in the whole town. Now, I don't really believe that, considering what I've heard of Boulder, but he couldn't find any info online. He's recently out and looking for a good place to have fun and meet people. Any suggestions?

Which is it?

Was this part of a movie or was it just a dream? My dreams are extremely visual, and sometimes I can't tell if a memory is from a dream or an old movie I saw when I was a kid.
Here's what I remember: A young man with a girl are in some sort of cave (maybe they are just underground), and there is a boulder covering up a large hole in the ground. The boy moves the boulder, (and I think the girl says something along the lines of, "The hole is covered up for a reason") and either bats come out or some sort of dog-like creature runs towards them from inside the hole, where the boy and girl frantically move the rock back, covering the hole again.

Was this from a movie? Or am I just remembering an old nightmare, where I was that young man? It's driving me crazy!

Boulders or Hills? Too close to call...HELP!

Boulder vs San Francisco...two worlds, both attractive as hell. I am looking to move to either one of these cities and while I KNOW they are very different (population, landscape, etc) I am torn. Help me understand how a girl in her mid-20s might choose between two fantastic joints. I am looking plant roots and here are the details: I am in my mid-20s(26) and I am from northern CA but I am open for change. That being said I love the idea of a new place and I heart hiking, backpacking and mellow lifestyles. However, I also love the fact that the people I do know in SF are kick-arse and are as active as I have ever met.

So the real question is...what does San Fran give you that Boulder does not and vice versa.

I am completely on the fence even if my post seems to lean one way, so any advice would help greatly. I thank you and hope you are in locations that suit you as well.

In Boulder for the summer. Need a haircut. Theodoric of York need not apply. Can anybody recommend a good barber or stylist who specializes is cutting men's hair in/near Boulder, Colorado? I am here for the summer and need a haircut but dread the inevitable butchering I typically receive at the hands of strangers picked randomly from Google searches. I don't need anything crazy or unusual, just a good scissor cut. Bonus points if it is pretty cheap (less than $20).

Names of particular stylists and the shop where they work preferred over just the names of shops, but both would be helpful.

Help House a Hipster in Hippie Heaven

Where shouldn't I move in Boulder, Colorado? I'm moving to Boulder, Colorado for graduate school this August, and am planning to fly out in late June or early July to find an apartment over a long weekend. Given that I've never set foot in Boulder, however, this is an intimidating prospect.

I'd ask "where should I move", except that my initial research suggests that Boulder isn't large or dense enough to have a lot of strongly distinct neighborhoods-- more like St. Paul, MN than Chicago, IL. So, where shouldn't I move?

Bonus criteria:

- I'm a city kid, and I'm going to be a terribly busy one. No need for easy access to hiking trails or anything along those lines.
- Making the commute to Arapahoe & 63rd St. (Nalanda Campus, Naropa) not horrible would be a plus. I anticipate spending most of my waking hours there.
- I'm not that enthusiastic about being surrounded by undergraduates, but I could probably cope, if necessary.
- I have a car, but for simple errands or a quick meal I'd prefer to walk.
- Because I won't be there that much, I don't need that much space at home. Will be either getting a cheap one bedroom alone or a medium-priced two bedroom with a friend.
- If it means anything to you, I've been living happily in Wicker Park, Chicago for the last few years. If I'm a hipster I'm the kind that is too busy creating art to hang out at the fashionable bars and have an ironic haircut.

ps. Please feel free to critique my apartment hunting plan, because I don't know jack about the market out there. Beyond what I explained above, the plan is to assault craigslist and local newspaper classifieds in the morning, and then spend the day on the streets viewing apartments and searching neighborhoods for "for rent" signs. Hopefully two or three intense days should be enough.

What to do in Boulder CO?

I am visiting Boulder CO from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and have just run the BolderBoulder 10k race which took me through most of town. In addition, I've walked and shopped down Pearl Street, and toured the local University. What else is there to do in Boulder other than hiking the mountains? I have three more days to spend here and am hoping to do/try something that I can't do in Calgary.
