Cocaine Kola Nuts

Are there still bottles, kegs—anything—out there in the wild that contain Coca-Cola from back when Coca-Cola contained (trace amounts of) cocaine? If yes, would I be breaking laws by purchasing it? [more inside]

Like a pump top, but the liquid flows into a 'dish' - what are these?

When in the US earlier this year, I bought this cleansing water - mostly because I really like this kind of dispenser and it prevents me from pouring half of whatever's in the bottle all over me. Now the cap's snapped off and I want to replace it, but there doesn't seem to be many things in the UK with this packaging. It's like a 'dish' where you press down and the liquid flows into the middle, allowing you to soak it up with cotton wool - here's a better pic. What's the name for this kind of cap?

Helping baby take a bottle

My delightful three month old doesn't know how to drink from a bottle. I'll drip milk in his mouth, and he'll get interested enough to take the bottle nipple in his mouth for a second, but it seems like his typical tongue action just pushes the nipple back out again? Is there a better nipple to try? Is there a specific way to hold the bottle that'll help him? [more inside]

Cheap Molded Bottle-Shaped Shipping Inserts

I need to check about 10 wine bottles on a flight. I want to pack with cheap molded pulp inserts (either two-across or three-across), which I'll pack into a box like this. But I'm having trouble finding/buying those molded inserts. I need 4 or 5, and if I can buy them locally in NYC (or, better, my destination in Austin/Dallas), that would be great, as I leave pretty soon. [more inside]

Is it really so terrible to let a two-year-old drink from a bottle?

My almost two-year-old still has a bottle of milk before bed. It really helps her fall asleep and she is VERY attached. We brush her teeth afterwards, so tooth decay is not an issue (in bed while she is half asleep, since she is too young to spit anyway and doesn't need to be at the sink). She does not use a pacifier or suck her thumb, so the bottle is the only thing that gives her that magical sucking comfort. The doctor says we should stop with the bottles, but why? [more inside]

Find me the Binny's of the West (Coast)

I moved to the Bay Area recently (San Mateo) and one of the things I've missed most from Chicago has been the amazing beer selection I was able to find at the local liquor chain Binny's. I've tried a couple of BevMo's and some smaller momandpop type places but I've yet to find a place with 4 rows of different beer plus coolers etc. which I could find in Chicago. I miss my selection! Does a place like this exist? Is there a secret bottle shop that I don't know about? Let me know where I can get my beer selection on!

Looking for leads for locally buying new/recycled bottles for gifts

I'm in the market for 1 oz, 2 oz, 4 oz and 8 oz bottles, preferably Boston Round glass amber colored bottles. I'd love to find the smaller bottles with orifice reducers (shake-to-drop) and/or droppers in the lids, and phenolic caps for the larger ones. Also neat whimsical labels would be cool but I'd be willing to make those myself and rubber cement them on. Do you have any thoughts on what types local businesses I should check to try to find a place that stocks all of these kinds of bottles and accessories? [more inside]

Why are wine bottles named after old, dead, semitic men?

Why are large-format wine bottles predominantly named after biblical figures (e.g. this reasonably comprehensive Wikipedia page)? The answer is not easily forthcoming on either the internet (although Google has been asked "why do wine bottles have biblical names?" before) or in my collection of food-studies books. Any ideas?

Not forever, just for now

I grown fond of a brand of apple whiskey that comes in these sturdy glass bottles (image), and now I have quite the collection of empty bottles. Right now, they're just sitting around my house making me look very much the alcoholic hoarder, but I can't bring myself to toss them, and I'd like to do something with them. Any ideas for some basic decor/crafty suggestions would be appreciated. [more inside]

Class up my home bar please

I'm interested in making my home bar look more uniform by using the same bottles. I fell in love with the 375 mL bottles used by House Spirits for their Limited Release line (images here and here). Where can I buy similar glass bottles (and accompanying corks)? Online or b&m sources are both ok; for the record I live in the Twin Cities.

Identify this cartoon and video!

CheatingBarStewardFilter As I'm limited to one posted question a week, I'm, erm, gonna cheat (but both questions are kinda the same sort of thing):

1) Trying to remember a cartoon from the 50s, that I'm pretty sure was called "Bottles". It had a Disney-Fantasia-esque feel, with the medicine bottles in a shop coming to life on a stormy night, brewing up a potion in a standard cartoony chemical set (bottles and tubes and the like)...

2) Also trying to remember a recent Indie video I saw (OK - I saw it recently) where the screen was split vertically throughout the song, and on each side you had a girl going through her day, doing identical things. The clincher was that one of the girls was going backwards, so when one gets out of bed in the morning, the other one is going to bed at night, but backwards - both clean their teeth together (one out of bed, one before bed, etc). They pass at some point in the middle and end up on the other side of the screen getting to the (identical) end/beginning of their days.

So, either of these things ring a visual bell with anyone?
