Just trying to get out of a dining out rut.
Any great casual none-too-pricey restaurants in the Boston area (preferably around Waltham/Lexington for me and my kids?
Me and the kids are fans of Chinese, Italian, American, pretty much anything but Indian.
If you know the area, we love Capitol Grille, Redbones, Santarpio's, Wagamama, Upper Crust Pizza, Legal's, Summer Shack, Watch City Brewery.

We've been thinking about moving to Jamaica Plain for a while but have been looking mostly around Centre St / Sumner Hill / Pondside. Now we've found a pretty great place available, but it's on the "wrong" side of the tracks, due east from Green St station, right by Franklin Park.
So, how is it around there? How is Franklin Park? We're somewhat worried about crime/safety. Also somewhat worried about being relatively far from the nicer shops/etc on Centre.
Would love to read any advice on this specific area, or JP / Franklin Park in general.

I want to learn/get some experience with oxy-acetylene brazing near Boston. Does anyone know of a place around here that offers courses and maybe open shop space after completing a course? Willoughby and Baltic seems to have disappeared off the map.

Does anyone know whether the zombie march from Davis Square in Somerville to Harvard Square in Cambridge will be taking place this Sunday? If so, what time? I can't seem to find any information about it. Or, if you know any other zombie marches in/around Boston this weekend, I love to hear about them.

I was doing some poking around in the NY Times online archive, and found a brief article about a 'libidinous hebdomadal' known as The Town (later The Sporting Times) from 1865. The NY police were quite keen to confiscate this newspaper, apparently, which originated in Boston. Anyone heard of it or have any idea what kinda content it would contain? I'm guessing it's sort of dirty.

I'll have what's more-or-less equivalent to an eleven hour layover in Boston on Wednesday, Feb. 17 from around 6am to around 5pm. I'll be on foot and starting from the Boston Sheraton/Prudential Center. Bearing in mind that I'll either be pulling a carryon or need somewhere to stash it, what should I do with my time there? Note also that I'm an undergrad elsewhere, so if there are any neat events going on on campus (especially MIT or Harvard), I probably wouldn't stand out TOO much attending. I'm also up for meeting local MeFites.
Thanks!

My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost six months now, but I know we have a special connection. I know she is very emotionally involved in our relationship as am I. We are planning on moving in together during the summer (mostly to save money).
We are both 23 and live in Boston. She is Chinese, concerned with the environment, and about to go to grad school. I have been working on my start-up company. Neither of us have much money. That does not mean I can't do something special for her.
The day before Valentine's is our 6-month anniversary which my girlfriend is planning and has already got some tickets to the opera for us to see. We agreed that she would plan our anniversary and I would plan Valentine's.
What are some special things I could do or give her to show her I love her?
