Please help me find some events, nice restaurants, and semi-formal occasions to get really dressed up for in and around southern New England, and not feel overdressed, for a bunch of 45-year-olds?

Working and Commuting in New England

One of us needs to be in Providence, RI. One in Bedford, MA. Is the commute doable from one to the other? Are there good places to live in between? We're 20something liberals, but we're okay with interesting suburbs.
