Gap between window and wooden sill letting in cold air

Last night as I was closing the shades I noticed cold air coming in and discovered what I think is a fairly recent gap between the wooden window sill and the vinyl windows. The gap is letting in quite a lot of air, and I am trying to figure out a) what caused it and b) if this is something we can fix (temporarily) ourselves. [more inside]

Best Pad Thai in Boston/Somerville/Cambridge

I've had a lot of pad thai around here, and pretty much all of it has been mediocre - kind of bland and flavorless. In comparison, I've had mind-meltingly delicious pad thai in Thailand (Chiang Mai and Koh Tao) that was bursting with sweet and sour and salty flavors all at once. I particularly remember the sweet cane sugar mixing with the sour tamarind in an intense, lovely way. Where can I get really really good, authentic pad thai in the Boston area? Ideally that would deliver to Davis Square. [more inside]

Public meeting in Boston with parking?

Where can I hold a public meeting for about 25-35 attendees in Greater Boston, with parking? Our group sometimes has attendees drive in from other states, so the usual suspects of city library branches or community centers are often a big pain for folks that need to find parking. Are there free meeting spaces that are near the T for transit users, but with easy-ish parking for car users? This is not for government or political organizing use, rather a meetup around a shared interest. Thank you!

If you do not arrive before 10pm, you will not party – Boston edition

A group of us will be in town the first weekend in December. Going out in unfamiliar cities is tricky. Where do all the cool queer kids party the first weekend of the month? And by kids I mean 25-45 year olds, 90s hip hop / top 40 /songs with lyrics you probably know loving types, possibly but not necessarily hipsters who hate lining up and don’t love paying cover. Looking for a fun, unpretentious bar to drink and dance, with an approachable crowd. [more inside]

Suggestions for Trick or Treat Trip from Philly to Boston

I have two kids (5 & 8) who are very excited about Halloween, but we are going to need to spend the evening of the 31st driving fro Philadelphia to Boston. I would like to stop at a couple of places on the way for them to do some Trick-or-Treating (yes, they will be in costume in the car - sorceress and cobra). So, I would love suggestions for some neighborhoods/streets that would be good places to trick or treat. Ideally in CT off of the Hutchinson River Parkway, Merritt Parkway, or I-84; or else off of the MassPike. [more inside]

Why yes I can overthink a can of trash, thank you.

In a 2-unit converted house in greater Boston, with the owner/landlord living upstairs, is the etiquette for the first-floor renter (me) to simply put my trash in outside cans/recycling bins as needed, and expect my landlord to take them to the curb on trash day? Boston Back Bay/Camberville filter: earbuds with mic needed ASAP

I'll be in Boston tomorrow for a little bit, but without a car. Karaoke and karaoke rental in Boston

I'm getting married in Boston next month. We'd like to rent a karaoke machine instead of doing the standard DJ/dance thing. Previous tenant left unpaid gas bill

I moved into my new apartment on Sept 1st. This is my first apartment - what should I do, AskMefi? Pay down the balance? Inform my landlord?

Would it be smarter to let my driver's license lapse?

(Posting on behalf of a friend): I was convicted of a DUI in March 2014, and am trying to pick up the pieces. I need to pay for an SR-22 which is insurance on my license. If I do not pay for this insurance my license will lapse. The policy is less expensive if I also insure a vehicle but I will not need a car in the coming months and cannot afford the payments. I need help figuring out if it would be smarter to not pay for any insurance (letting my license lapse), to sell the car and use the profits to pay the SR-22, or to just keep the car (though I really do not want to). Getting from Boston Logan to Providence by rail

I'm traveling to E. Where can I buy real sand near Boston?

We need sand for our daughter's sandbox - I think it takes like 17 50 pound bags. However, based on research we are all worked up now about the horribleness of the "Fake" sand from ground up quartz - due to inhalation issues. However, we know there can be an issue with real sand as well. So I am looking for somewhere that can provide safe real sand - so probably real sand that has been washed to remove the very small particles. This type of thing can be ordered online but it is hugely expensive. I could call around to every landscape company but I know many are business only, have huge minimums or simply wouldn't want to talk to the type of sand I need (which is probably river sand or beach sand).
