When I plug my 16GB iPod Touch into my Bose Sounddock, I hear a soft thumping sound, almost like a muffled helicopter. Turning the volume up or down on the iPod or dock has no effect. This never happened with my old iPod, but it does with multiple the iPod Touches I've tried it with. Does this happen to anyone else? How can I fix it?

About 10 years ago, I bought a pair of Bose 301 Series 2 speakers. They've now been through a number of moves and they're sounding not-as-good. I'm not sure how to define the difference--they sound muddier, and less three-dimensional. I pulled off the front grill and didn't see any visible damage. I want to buy some speakers for an Ipod. Altec Lansing and Bose have both made speaker sets that use the docking port, so that's kind of cool, but are the speakers worth it? The Bose ones in particular are $300, which seems really high. Anyone have any experience with these? Or is it just better to buy some regular powered speakers and plug them into the earphone jack?
