Monopoly and decorating cookies aren't interesting enough to woo my relatives away from their naps. What are some fun projects, challenges, and DIY kits the adults in my extended family can do together for entertainment over Christmas week? [more inside]

Please help me fill up my time. I am a psychologist in private practice, and thanks to the recession, I have multiple times during the week with nothing to do--this is a new experience for me, and aside from the anxiety of not working as much as I need to, I am also bored to tears.
Unfortunately, it is an hour here and an hour there--never any good block of time, and although in the future I may have to rearrange my schedule and put all my hours together, at the moment I am trying to maintain hope that I will be able to fill those hours with new patients.
I am sick of surfing the internet, going for walks, updating patient files, and reading whatever (professional literature, novels). Any suggestions, Mefites, for how I can spend my time more productively, or at least entertainingly?

I'm off work the next four days over the New Year's holiday & weekend. I am usually a very social person, but I live alone and I don't have much of anything planned this weekend. And I'm worried about spending the whole weekend alone, because I think I will get really lonely and unhappy. How can I enjoy myself? [more inside]

What to do in the Laurel, Maryland area for College student on summer break? That is the question. I am sitting at home everyday just playing games and reading and it is extremely boring. I do have a car and love nature but can never find any good areas. Anything that can be done alone is also a plus since most of my friends are away.

I'm a really weird person who just absorbs knowledge like a sponge. If I'm not learning in a job I quickly become bored, frustrated, irritable and miserable in general.
I'm thinking of leaving my current position with a great team because of the above. Am I selfish because I want to do this?

In the 70's (and very early 80's), a common pop music trope was to have a chorus of female vocalists who sounded, well... monotone. Or perhaps a bit bored. Clipped, a tad nasal. The most flamboyant example of this is likely's M's Pop Muzik[youtube], but there are others. Help me find more.

I am always bored on the weekends. I like to be really busy all of the time, but I am not very good at finding things that I enjoy that aren't also expensive (I have very little disposable income). Also, I dislike doing things alone, but I'm single and most of my friends are in relationships and hang out with their sig other on the weekend. What do YOU do on the weekends? I'm one of those people who likes work-type things more than play, but I don't really want to get a part-time job or anything. I guess what I'm saying is that I like things that are challenging and "suck you in."

The beloved and I are at this point where neither of us has any real disposable income and it's going to be like this for the next 2-3 months. We collectively have Netflix, boardgames, gym membership, game consoles and a library card, but we need more ideas for FREE things to do so we aren't bored to death. We're in St. Louis if anyone has something location specific. (we already went to the zoo yesterday) [more inside]

My life sucks. But the one good thing about being broke and unemployed is that you can do it anywhere. Assuming I were debt free with no commitments, where's a nice new place to go to scratch out a subsistence living as either a plumber, a waiter, or a dishwasher? Anywhere on the planet, English- or French-speaking (or anything easier than Russian or Chinese -- I'll have a few months to learn a new language as I pay my way toward escape), must have at least paved roads and indoor plumbing, and if the population hates Americans, I'd prefer that they do so abstractly rather than overtly. Canada, Iceland, and Belize seem kinda promising....
