I'm looking for a higher-quality replacement for my favorite leather boots. Google, AskMe archives, Frye and other sites yield nothing so far. I guess front lace-up boots are not the trend right now; surely the style is classic, and someone's making them? FWIW, I'm female with average width calves. [more inside]
Is it possible to darken leather with conditioner/polish/oil? Or will I destroy this pair of light brown boots trying to make them into a pair of dark brown boots? [more inside]
I finally got my hands on a pair of boots from the Dr. Martens Flocked Collection. They are maybe my favorite thing in the whole world. But how can I protect them? [more inside]
I haven't worn my beloved red cowboy boots in a few years. I'd like to wear them again, but the leather feels kind of dried out, and I'm worried about damaging them if I just put them on and start walking. What should I do to get them ready to wear again?
I wore a pair of vegan boots to work yesterday. A few hours later, one was wrecked. How did this happen? Pics and details under the fold. [more inside]
The last two pairs of Corcoran jump boots I've bought each lasted about 8 months before they self-destructed. Does anyone make similar boots that won't need to be replaced every year?

I'm looking for a better quality pair of boots to replace these Steve Madden ones I bought a few years ago. I really like the style of these boots, with the little crochet detailing, and they're quite "light," but they're wearing out and it's time for me to find something new. [more inside]
I'm looking for a pair of shoes/boots that will effectively function in as many different environments as possible: walking, hiking, sun and rain, dressing up for more formal occasions. (I'm a traveler and I only have room for a single pair of shoes in my life.) Comfort is a huge priority; I want them to feel as cozy as house slippers. Waterproofing would be a welcome bonus but not essential. [more inside]

I just got two pairs of my boots repaired (new heels + seam repair), which cost $25 each time. If I'm at the point where I need shell out $50 to make them wearable again, is it time to just buy new ones? [more inside]

After reading this AskMe, my future men's shoe purchases will all be top quality. With that in mind, I really like these Chelsea-style Allen Edmonds boots (bigger pic, slightly different style), but unfortunately, they no longer make them. Can you recommend a similar boot from a similarly high-quality company? [more inside]
This week's temperatures being consistently in the single digits and below zero has made me realize that I need some snow boots. I've had my eye on the Sorel Tivoli High II's but after reading some reviews, it sounds like the quality has declined in recent years. Can you give me info on Sorel's quality of late, or alternatively, recommend some good boots? Snowflakes (heh) within! [more inside]
I really love these boots, but they're a bit more than I can or want to afford to spend on them right now. Anyone have suggestions for similar style boots that aren't quite so hard on the wallet? Some loss in quality/longevity is ok, as I won't be actually working in an iron mine with them.
I spent $60 on a pair of these Bare Traps boots, which I loved for exactly five days until the heel completely fell off of the shoe. I am off to get my money back as we speak. What retailer makes boots like these that won't fall apart this winter? [more inside]
I'm looking for dog boot recommendations. We use mushers paw wax, but we run in the snow/ice in Minnesota. I'd like some boots as back on I bought a of Good2go Extreme weather boots. After one 2 mile run the fabric is cracking and they stay on most of the time but not as well as hoped. Shes a red heeler mix if that helps at all. any recommendations for dogs+running+snow are much appreciated.

I'm a guy in Los Angeles. I need some sexy, funky, S&M/leather-friendly, ankle-height black boots for rocking out on go-go platforms, cruising around at Burning Man, and generally pairing up with scandalous outfits at club nights. My budget could be up to $350 for the right pair. In-store only, because I'd really like to try them on. Where shall I go?

What's the more common practice in the U.S. and elsewhere? What particular locales, religions, ethnic backgrounds, etc. are associated with a preference for shoes off or shoes on inside the house? I have some great shoes I love that are ... falling apart. [pic] Unfortunately, they've been discontinued! I can get something sort of similar but there are still some drawbacks. Diligent searching hasn't turned up my perfect work shoe, though. In short, I want something tough like a work boot, easy to put on and take off (i.e. velcro straps), but with walking-shoe type soles and as light as possible. [more inside]

I'd like a pair of cowboy boots. I have no idea why. None of my friends wear cowboy boots. I guess I just like them. I've never owned a pair. I'm looking for a little guidance. In particular, what's a good brand that makes a quality boot that's comfortable and will last? Or even what's a specific boot that's good? [more inside]
I think I need some boots: hiking boots, winter boots and stylish boots. But I am boot-ignorant. Please help me understand what I'm looking for! (I'm female) [more inside]
I love cowboy boots, and on a recent trip to Portland let my lust overcome me and bought some. I'm normally a conservative dresser (suits, dresses, skirts with jackets) during the week, and a jeans and Tshirt kind of person on weekends. Suggestions on what to wear with the new boots? They are mid-calf. One pair are a gorgeous rich brown with tooled roses and the other is brown and black tooling.
I'm looking for "hiking boots" that realistically will be used mostly on city streets. I mostly care about walking on slick cement or tile (e.g., many subway stations, fancy lobbies) without slipping, and about stepping into puddles without soaking my socks. A few times a year I may also wear them on a spring or fall day hike, so I'd rather they weren't heavily insulated, but otherwise actual hiking should be a secondary consideration. What features should I look for, and where would be a good brick-and-mortar store in Manhattan to buy them? (I have funny-shaped feet, so I want to try out a few options without waiting multiple round trips for shipping. Also, helpful staff would be a plus.)
Recently I bought a pair of real leather, made in Italy boots at Goodwill for $10. Score! Well, of course they had a problem. [more inside]
