Best European sites for locating copies of out of print books

Does anyone have recommendations for particularly effective search engines for European second-hand / out of print books? Back when I used to look for these books pre-google, there were a couple of specialist sites that consolidated searches across numerous second-hand booksellers' catalogues, but I've forgotten their names. Do these still exist and if so, are they any use? [more inside]

Help me find my precious lasagna recipe or find a better one.

I need to cook a lasagna by Friday for a large party. But in the great book purge, the cookbook that has the best lasagna recipe got removed! I am prepared to buy it new on Amazon, but I can't remember the title, and my fuzzy memory is supplying only generic terms. Please help me either find this cookbook, or recommend an even more awesome lasagna recipe! Clues follow. [more inside]

Needle in a bottle. Needle in a bottle, yeah.

About ten years ago, I read the first two books in a sci-fi trilogy involving a world that had some kind of accelerated decay problem. Also, there were giant, intelligent ants. [more inside]

Seeking a long-lost & probably far more mediocre than I remember it story

I'm looking for a book I read a long time ago. It was set in some hilly country, quite cold, somewhere like Iceland. A boy working on his farm developed some sort of need for a quest (but I have no idea what this actually was). He had a 'typically' Viking name, and there was a girl involved, physical but seeming quite ethereal. Possibly they were somehow married (though they were—I don't know, but less than twelve, so when I say 'married' I mean one of those close friendships characters in children's books have with destined soulmates). Things I seem to remember but may be mixing up with other books: a sword, longships arriving (the settlers were Viking too). There were gods around, because Loki was quite prominently featured in the story while the boy was questing alone. I think this quest had a fairly pathetic basis, and that's one of the things that made the story interesting. [more inside]

Inventing another word for "pen"

ID a book?

I'm trying to identify a book. The book was called, I believe Aeroflot, and it was a diary written by an American expat running a bar in Paris just after WWII. The book's packaging was a brown cardboard restaurant ledger on which the diary entries were written -- it was bound in a tall, narrow pad of restaurant cheques. My attempts to search retailers for "aeroflot paris" have only turned up aviation-related books. From what I recall the book was published in the mid-90s, but I don't have an author's name. Does this ring any bells?
