Does anyone remember this book, or the controversial argument at its core? It would have been published in the late 1990's, and argued that blue eyed candidates got the job more often than thier brown eyed peers- a friend mentioned the book, which I vaguely remember, but neither one of us can find a title or author. Help!

I'm interested in exploring Robert C. Solomon's work on our human passions, love, etc., which was one major focus of his work. Since he was such a prolific author, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the choices available. Does anyone have works they recommend in particular? Thanks.

More non-fiction please! As a strange antidote to having to read a lot of dry academic articles, I enjoy pleasurable non-fiction writing about jobs and work. Books I've liked in the past include May Roach (
Stiff); Atul Gawande (
Complications, Better); Barbara Ehrenreich (
Nickeled and Dimed); and Tracy Kidder (
House, Among Schoolchildren). I'd like recommendations for more non-fiction along those lines.

I'm trying to track down a French book, published recently, 2010 or 2011. It's either a conlang book or a book about an invented society. Possibly both. It is not a novel or a collection of stories but a description of the language/society. This is the author's first book. It was published by a respected publishing house and garnered positive notes in France.

I'm looking for a certain book written in the sixties or seventies about the sociological aspect of the training of airline hostesses/stewardesses. Don't remember if it was entirely about this topic, or just a notable part of it. Some part of it may have been about how stewardesses had to curb the outward expression of their personalities to match stringent requirements of communication with passengers that rendered them almost carbon copies of one another. It was somewhat famous. Suggestions?

Can anyone identify this 25-year-old book? It's a book on study skills (reading, note-taking, time management, etc.) for college students, published before 1985. There's one particular line. In the section on time management, the authors note (paraphrasing): This may seem like overkill now, but if you become (say) a lawyer, you'll need to manage your time far more intensively. Does anyone remember reading this?

Using a Mac, what would be one of the higher quality ways of taking a 1 minute digital video clip, converting that file so that the video is broken down into several hundred sequential still frames (high quality) and then finally printing those still frames (say each one being 3" x 3") so that I can make a flicker picture book from them? Free programs would be nice but willing to buy something if it means getting a superior result.

I am looking for a chapter book I read as a kid in the 1970s/1980s in which a princess and her family have to move out of their ancestral home and instead rent all the houses on a street to hold all their things that used to be in the castle. It was kind of an adventure/mystery story after that, I think involving something with the family possessions. Anyone know the title of this book please?
