For years I have been looking for information about a children's book about a mother cat and her kitten and a (coal?) town where it was so dirty that no cat would stay there, despite the wishes of the inhabitants. The mother cat has to make a trip and isn't sure she can leave her kitten in the dirty town, but someone comes out of a building (maybe, where all the residents have chosen names they'd give a kitten if they could have one?), and (maybe beats a pot with a spoon? and) calls out all the cat names one after another in hopes of calling the kitten. Mother cat is convinced and leaves kitten. [more inside]
I'm looking for help identifying a book I read when I was a kid in the 80s! I don't remember much about it other than some impressions about visual style, a few plot points, and one line of text. The book in question went missing when we moved in 1989, so I know it was written before then. [more inside]
Help me find the name of this story I remember about a moment when everyone stops making noise at once. [more inside]
Please recommend your favorite stores for books for kids in Chicago. I am interested in finding used books, quirky books, and progressive books. Not necessarily all three and not necessarily in that order. Toddler Xalf is almost 1.5 years old, but I'm happy to buy books that will be over his head for the next few of years. Any part of Chicago is fine. Suburbs too, especially those to the north.
I'm trying to identify an English-language book by its cover as seen in a photo of my friend taken in 1970 when she was a year old. The original image is hard to make out, but I inverted it and made it black and white. Does anyone recognize it? [more inside]
My daughter is 13 yo & is a pretty good artist. She is extremely creative & she has compiled a great deal of pictures that she has drawn. What i find incredibly unique about these pictures, is that they are all of Puns... like "Running out of time" with somebody running out of a giant clock.... etc., etc., etc... Again, they are VERY unique. Every time i look at them, she's added a few, and they are all very clever. I thought it would be terrific if she could compile them together... with either captions under each, or even putting some words to them to create a short story...etc. Thereby, resulting in a book... based on these puns, the target audience would be around her age (say maybe 10 yo or so) & up. How would i go about or rather who would i contact, to present it to a publishing company? I welcome all thoughts & suggestions!
The bowl was Spanish, and didn't want to be warrior... it just wanted to smell flowers... anyone remember or know what book this is?

I need help finding a (British?) children's book from the mid 1980's. It was an introduction to colour theory under the guise of a storybook. It had great transparent plastic pages that you could overlay to see the effects of subtractive colour spaces. I don't remember what the story was about, but there were lots of balloons.
