I need more income beyond what my 9-5 M-F provides. Specifically in the short term to cover some bills, but I'd like for it to work as a long-term thing also. I live in a heavily touristed area, so food service & similar jobs aren't easy to come by. [more inside]
I'm dealing with the tax ramifications of a bonus clawback, and it's ugly. I'd like get a feeling for just how ugly it's gonna get. Would any MeFites please share their US compensation clawback experience? I understand none of you are my accountant and that none of you are offering specific tax planning advice.
Sort of had to maul the question title, but it's straightforward enough... I work in a finance job with a substantial end of the year bonus. I'm also planning on quitting the second it is safe to do so... I know that merely getting the number is NOT safe, but once it is in my bank account, am I good to quit? I'm not really sure what to look for! But once the money is in my account, can they do anything?
I work for an amazing company that is incredibly generous to their employees. 100% paid healthcare premiums, unlimited time off, tons of free swag, free food, endless offsite team building events, travel to conferences, tuition reimbursement, gift baskets full of goodies on your birthday etc. We have distributed employees located in 32 different states as well as about 70 employees in our Portland Headquarters. There are a few employees coming up on their 5 year anniversary and I am completely stuck on what would be a great recognition gift. [more inside]

I'm 32. For reasons too boring to get into, I just came into about $30,000, and now I'm wondering what to do with it. I don't mean like, what kind of sports car should I buy, but rather what's the best way to save it for later? [more inside]

In January, I got my business successfully running, paid off and closed a bunch of personal credit cards, and began making a decent amount of money. Now I'm in a place to start opening credit cards and rebuilding my credit. Last time I looked (10 years ago), there were ways to open new credit card accounts, and as long as you were responsible about always paying off all of your balances at the end of every month, you could get bunches of free flights and bonuses and things. I recall people who played with new account bonuses as a relatively lucrative game. Is this still a thing? Is it worth the time?

I was eligible for a sizable bonus on February 1, 2012, the one year anniversary date of my start date. The offer letter said I'd get an email listing the criteria on which the bonus would be based by the end of February 2011. I never got the email. Requests for the criteria went unanswered. So have emails and phone calls since November. Is this something I could present to a Labor Relations panel for resolution? I have tons of qualitative and quantitative data on the work I've performed, essentially in a vacuum. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I just got a job working as the head of social media marketing for a startup company--exciting! There's only one problem: my new boss wants to incentivize the position through bonuses. I have no idea what to pitch in return. [more inside]

I got a large bonus this year which will probably never be repeated. After taxes, it was 26K. I don't have any immediate needs (no medical issues, etc), and I know next to nothing about investing. Given this economy, what should I do with it? Stocks? Bonds? Saving account? IRA? [more inside]

Got laid off from a Washington state company last November after just 8 months on the job. Before I joined that company, I was promised a profit sharing plan between 15% to 30% of my base. The offer letter stated that it is "based on company results and is not guaranteed". Right before I left the company, unconfirmed news was that there WOULD be a profit sharing after year-end as the company was doing pretty well. [more inside]

I am on the verge of leaving my job at a large game company (the largest) in order to start work elsewhere. Our annual bonus (based on company performance over the last year, expected to be quite good this year) isn't issued till June 1st. I am wondering-- if I give notice and leave before June 1st, am I still entitled to this bonus? How can I find out without potentially spilling the beans that I'm leaving? (I haven't told my manager yet.) Also, if I give 2 weeks notice in such a way that my last day is after June 1st, can the company terminate me in less than 2 weeks so that I don't get my bonus? (In other words if I want to be absolutely sure of collecting my bonus, would it be safest to not give notice at all until June 1st? Assuming I can delay my start date at the new place that long...)
