Beach Bonfire

Where's the best beach in the Victoria area to have a bonfire? Bonfire would happen sometime in the evening and then carry on into night. There would only be 8-10 persons max, so size is not so much the issue but somewhere away from houses, public, and legal is what I'm looking for. Thanks.

How to clean a burned porcelain teacup?

How to clean a fine porcelain teacup that found its way into a bonfire? A friend moved recently, and apparently missed a cup in one of the boxes. While burning the moving boxes, he found one of his good porcelain teacups roasting in the fire. He fished it out, but it's a bit charred. I've been able to get much of the black off by soaking it in hot water, but the painted pattern is starting to come off, so I'm afraid to use Bon Ami or baking soda.

Any suggestions about how to get the remaining black crud off without further damaging the cup?

Ewwww, Gross!

Seeking creepy kids' camp songs for Halloween bonfire. I'm helping with a Halloween event by hanging out by the bonfire with my geetar, leading spooky-ish and/or gross-out songs with kids and families. I'm looking for song suggestions -- things on the order of "Great Green Gobs of Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts," "The Cat Came Back," etc. Any ideas?

Help me start a bonfire in the Bay Area

Bonfire By The Bay: Can we do it? Please click down ⬇ there and find I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area. My buddy's birthday is coming up, and a bonfire on the beach sounds like a Great Idea™ for celebrating. I'm wondering about the various legal/logistical issues of setting one up.

First of all, is it legal? I think I've seen bonfire pits on a beach near Half Moon Bay, which leads me to believe there are at least some beaches that allow them around here.

Second, if they are legal, do I need to obtain a permit or anything to actually light one? Are we going to get harassed by rangers?

Any tips on bonfires in the Bay Area are welcomed.

Help me make the bonfire go smoothly.

Please help me make the bonfire go smoothly and my birthday not suck. The facts:
- Occasion: I am turning 27, I figure this is a cheap and casual way to get everyone together
- Location: San Diego, CA
- Guests: ~20

Can you hope me with these questions:
- Best SD beach for bonfire?
- How much wood do I need to make it last from sunset to whenever they make you leave? (I think it's midnight)
- Easy bonfire food to bring/make?
- Fun activities/themes? (I don't know anyone with a guitar and anyway not really into singing Kumbaya)
- Any other suggestions/advice?

Just in case the bonfire thing falls through, if anyone has suggestions for a fun restaurant that can accommodate this many guests for <$20 a head, that would be appreciated as well because SignOnSanDiego.com is just pititiful with its recommendations. (no Buca di Bepo though, thanks)
