Is there any way to estimate the number of people currently living who have experienced ongoing war on their own home soil? I'm thinking of people living in Gaza now or London during World War II, civilians directly affected by ongoing bombing and military conflict, rather than soldiers or one-time terrorist-attack survivors. (I realize it may not be possible to separate that out.)

Is Beirut safe right now to visit? I heard about the Ashrafieh bombing recently -- is that known as a not-so-safe area, or are attacks really an "anytime, anywhere, no safe zones" sort of thing? Aside from bombings, if there's an angry mob are they likely to react particularly violently toward Americans, or would we just blend into the scenery?

I'm trying to remember what the title of this movie was. I think it was made in the 1960's or 1970's in the U.S. I remember watching it on TV on the Sunday Matinee show in the 1980's. The plot involved this millionaire who wanted to attack the Soviet Union, he had a small force which was to attack Russia by driving trucks across the polar ice cap. All I can remember was that in the end of the film his plan is thwarted by the Soviets, who send planes to bomb the ice, and the trucks sink to the bottom of the ocean. Any ideas?

A year or two ago there was a news story about Israel awarding medals to several agents of their government for acts of terrorism against Egypt and the United States (in the 70s I think). Formerly they had been denounced by the Israelis as "rogue" agents or some such. Anyone have a link to the story?

In my impressionable youth I was told that the gravestones in coastal SE England towns were put against the churchyard walls to obviate church and thus town identification by the Luftwaffe.
