I'm trying to make a blues harp "inspiration" mix-tape as a gift for some new players. They only have a C harp, so I'm trying to find songs in either G or C for them to play along with.

Can you think of any other blues-rock songs with the same rhythmic pattern as Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" and ZZ Top's "La Grange"?

In
Black Snake Moan, Samuel L Jackson sings an unusual version of Stackerlee. Were those particular lyrics written for the movie, were they cobbled together out of other versions, or was he copying an earlier performance outright?

Where's a good place to go, preferably online, for pointers and/or reviews of good contemporary blues albums? Or, failing that, what are the best blues albums from the last 10 years or so?

[SchoolOfRockFilter] I'm teaching an EFL class of four high school students in rural Taiwan. There's a reading on music history about early African-American musical idioms (blues, gospel, ragtime, early jazz). It's TERRIBLY dull reading, especially considering names like Duke Ellington and Ma Rainey mean absolutely nothing to them. To liven it up a bit, I'd like to make a mix CD with 5-6 songs, print up the lyrics, and teach them that. What songs would you suggest?

BluesFilter: A couple of years ago, a friend and I were flipping past the blues channel on XM radio, and stumbled across the one of the funniest songs I've ever heard. I want to find a copy for my friend for a Christmas gift. Of course, I have no idea what the song actually is. Help me, O HiveMind!

So i'm an adult intermediate piano player, i've been playing classical for some years but would like to hammer out some blues for fun. What are some good books that you would recommend (ones with CDs especially)? Any good web resources too?

Name that tune please :: PBS is great, and the songs in their promos are actually just as good. Currently running is a promo that ends with the words; "Be More ~ ThirteenHD" (this is PBS Thirteen's High-Def channel which they broadcast in NYC & possibly elsewhere?). The music which accompanies it is a piece that I'd classify as sort of a Blues/Rock/Jazz instrumental.
My Question:
Name that tune!?!

About 10 years ago, I heard a classic blues song by a female vocalist that pops back into my head. The song lyrics are a double entendre with the vocalist talking about a chair, with verses for the legs, seat and back, possibly more. Does it spark anybody's memory?

In Bob Dylan's book
Chronicles, Vol. 1 he describes an esoteric numerological scheme for playing guitar, saying most melodies are based on the number 2, but that he's taken it to the next level by choosing what to play based on the number 3. Can anyone explain what he is talking about?
