I'm finding out that years of obsessive RSS reading, Twittering and 24-hour news broadcast watching have turned me into someone with a very low attention span when it comes to other, long-form media (movies and books). I'd like to divorce myself, to a degree, from the world of instantaneous news and commentary - partly to relax a little, and partly to devote more time to reading literature, philosophy, religious books, etc. Problem: my career is in political social media strategy. Help me cheer up my wife! She's just started a new job (her first out of grad school) as a clinical therapist at a methadone clinic. Tell me about blogs or testimonials I can print out for her in a "Oh, THAT'S why I put up with this shit" vein. [more inside]

My friend is applying for clinical psychology postgraduate study at the end of this year and she would like to make sure she is well read on relevant books (nb. not text books) and blogs etc before the interview. Can anyone reccomend any books, websites or blogs that would be good for my friend to review prior to her interview?

I have become addicted to a certain website (RSS feed actually) that makes snarky criticism about major advertising campaigns. Can you recommend other similar blogs? Everytime I google for keywords based on their domain I get (nonsurpirsingly) very spammy results. [more inside]

Since I'm moving to Baltimore in July, I'd like to get a handle on some good blogs by Baltimoreans. Content does not necessarily have to be Baltimore focused, but that would be nice too. What sites should I be reading? [more inside]

A group of East African bloggers I follow have recently begun circulating the Honest Scrap Award — a sort of informal bloggers' award-slash-meme — among themselves. I thought they had created it, but a quick Google search
shows that it's been around since at least December of 2008. Does anyone know where or why it started?

Looking for indepth online.
Where do you go for indepth analysis and information? The online versions of most Current Affairs print magazines are known to me. I want more Glenn Greenwald, Daily Beast; Andrew Sullivan or Informed Comment. What are the best blogs out there for political and international analysis; not neccessarily UScentric? For instance where do I find out more about the convoluted craziness of Iran or Eritrea? There are a lot of highly intelligent, inquiisitive people around these parts; where do you go to find out what the informed opinion for your interests are? Please don't limit this to just political or current affairs; the best of anything is always worth reading.

I sometimes like to read webcomics or blogs from the first post. I could use history or bookmarks each time, but any other way to have a simple set-up so I don't lose my place?

Offline blog reader? I've backed up my blog into an XML file. I'd like to read it offline. Open Office has XML support but this is not an efficient solution. There are online solutions--importing the xml file into a new blog, for example--but I'd just like to read while offline from the xml file. Is there a program that will permit this?

Help me find this site: it is a popular(?) blog with complete chronological integration with the author's twitter account and other social networks. The author MAY be some sort of PR guru or something. I remember so little about the site that googling proves to be unsuccessful. [more inside]

What is a good source of online etiquette for cross-medium self-promotion? I'm thinking someone might be going over the line, but I want something to back me up so it doesn't seem like I'm just overreacting. A member of an e-mail list I subscribe to posts about her/his blogs over frequently, to the point of always posting whenever there is a new entry up. I'm through ignoring it, and more than one person has suggested to him on list that if people wanted to read her/his blog that they'd do it. I'm not sure she/he is getting it. However, I can't really find any good sources for this sort of netiquette - I'm finding things only related to blogs or to e-mail lists, not both. I'd like something to point to if I (or others) choose to reach out to her/him.

I finally convinced my boss that we could manage a blog. The blog would be (in fact already is) on an existing community site with other arts organizations; my idea is to get it going, and provide links in both directions. This is at absolutely no cost to us, and I've worked out a rotation so no single person needs to write more than one entry per year. Then she started talking to her marketing guy. [more inside]
