I enjoy the often-derided NewsFilter type posts, epecially the comments and links provided in follow-up. These days, Canadian politics has become interesting, but I haven't found a spot on the web where ideas, information and links of MeFi caliber are posted on this subject.
Are there any Canadian politics oriented blogs or forums that are worthy?

WordPress users: What plugins have you found useful? My wife and I are both new WordPress users, after an arduous battle to wrest our previous entries from Blogger's paws. I'd like to extend the functionality of our sites, but the number of plugins available is a little daunting. What plugins do you use?

It appears that Cheap Tickets is no longer the major sponsor of the weblog Gridskipper. While this may be due to many things (ie-content, low stats), do you foresee a future in which major blogs will regularly attract major sponsors to the extent that staff members could be hired, and millions could be made?

With the recent decision by kottke.org to be solely reader-supported, I'm curious to see how you value your reads.
Would you be willing to pay $30 a year for Metafilter? More? Less?
How about for some up-and-coming web magazines that operate on a daily basis, say The Morning News, The Black Table, etc.?
And how much for up-to-the-second pro blogs in the Gawker empire where advertising is used? Gawker? Gizmodo? Wonkette, etc?
How much for Boing Boing were it to be ad free?
How much for Fark?
How much for the individuals' blogs you frequent?
And for some Kottke.org fans who don't see $30 as a micropayment, how much would you be willing to pay for a year of his content?
Curious to see what range of dollar-value folks assign to their daily reads that are currently free to access. Please name and value other sites of your choosing.

What blogs do you read? I'm on the search for intelligent, thoughtful blogs like everyone's favorite, Metafilter. Sure, there's
Fark, and
Linkswarm to name a few, but these sites are a bit chaotic and, frankly, too big. The Fark I started reading years ago now has too many silly local stories--why are so many about dumb criminals?
I'm also not looking for personal blogs, but more community-based. Any suggestions?

Is there a free (some ads okay) online bloghosting service that allows you to categorize posts? For example, could I post something, categorize as "school," and then on the side of the page have a list of categories so I could click there and access those posts quickly?
blogthing seems to do it, but are not accepting new accounts presently. It seems to me that MovableType can do this, but I am awful at learning how to use such things properly.

After reading hundreds of blogs (Why, oh why?), I’ve come to the conclusion that a big number of the people who write about their own financial situation, explicitly or indirectly tell of how broke they are; Like
Jim Anchower, many describe low wages and bad jobs, job losses and unemployment, crashing bills, life in apartments with roommates who don’t care and having a hard time paying rents & bills, etc. I understand that the
real median household income in 2003 was $43,318 (US), and I know that times are hard for most people. Still, is the average blogger poorer than the average person?

I'm a TypePad user, moving to Movable Type. I know that MT is much more powerful, but out of the (virtual) box, it is lacking in a lot of the cool features (book lists, photo albums, blogrolls) that TypePad has built in.
What's the best place for a n00b like me to go to start bringing MT into line with what I had in TypePad? I've been slogging through the MT Plugins site, but if there's an even easier guide out there, I'll gladly admit I'm an MT loser and just paint-by-numbers!

Interesting online writing projects.... ? I'm thinking about tackling another (large) writing project via the 'net. What are your favorite (preferably single-author) sites that are presenting stories / a novel / thematic essays? I'm not really looking for blogs, but (maybe) serial pieces presented in blog format. I need a really basic web application that functions similar to a blog system but isn't. All I want is to create a single page with a question to which I will invite people to respond. I've considered using a wiki, but I don't want anyone to be able to edit anyone elses response. I'd also like to be able to sort responses based on a few required fields (but this isn't essential). I can just create a second Wordpress install with only 1 post, but that seems like overkill.

Is there any good solution for multi-url blog software? I've got a bunch of domains, and I want to run different blogs on each of them, but I don't want to have to install, say, a separate copy of Wordpress for each of them (and then have to go update all of them individually when there's an update). They're all located on the same physical server (linux/Apache).
Any ideas?
