Will I get in trouble for posting mp3s to my blog?

i am (surprise surprise) into blogs. and before i was into blogs, i was into music. now i like to post mp3s to my blog. is it a bad idea to label which song/artist it is -- as in, are there really crazy music coppers who will show up on my doorstep to arrest me? my blog's host is tumblr, which makes it easy to share an mp3 a day. should i just forgo labelling which songs i post? or is it pointless to even worry about this at all? i have no idea how intense lawyers are these days about persuing folks who share tunes online, and i don't want to get sued just 'cause i want to spread my love for joe meek.

Can you recommend some blogs that focus on the music scene in Washington, DC? I'm interested mainly in hip-hop/funk/soul and indie rock (but not rap). I've been going to some local music concerts this summer mainly by accident, and I've always enjoyed chatting with the other concertgoers about the musicians which they always seem to know so much about. I'd like to know a little bit more about the musicians living among us, so I can intentionally go to some shows this fall.

I read DCist sometimes, but I find it overwhelming to find what I want because of the amount of posts.

Hey, mp3 bloggers, what do you wish you'd known when you started out? I'm close to launching an mp3 blog. What pitfalls have you encountered? What mistakes have you made along the way? What unexepected successes have you had? What do you wish you'd known before launching?

I'm looking for anecdotal advice of the technical, legal, and monetary varieties.

My blog will focus on obscure-ish music. I'm using WordPress on my own domain, hosted at Dreamhost.

Where do the amateur classical/jazz musicians hang out online? I'm looking for good forums or blogs for non-professional musicians...I want to hear about the latest repertoire, the latest hot violin soloist, pracise techniques, tricky piano fingering and phrasing discussions, why Glenn Gould's recording of Prelude in C is so stacatto...

Classical and jazz, piano, violin and guitar--but anything goes, really.

I love mp3 blogs (like Motel de Moka and Chromewaves). I also like listening to Chinese music, but find it hard to find new, good songs. Are there any mp3 blogs for Chinese music? Sites in Chinese are fine, although the less crowded the page, the better (I read too slowly in Chinese to do well otherwise). I tend to like less pop-ish music, although a healthy mix of different styles would be welcome. Any reliable non-mp3-blog sites for finding Chinese songs would be welcome too.

I'd really search for this myself if I was good enough at Chinese. I generally use gougou or baidu if I know what I'm looking for, but I'm more looking for something that would help me explore different artists/songs.

I want to be a music blogger, except that I don't much about actual blogging and hosting of music I love music and I love to write, I want to have a little music so I can present artists I like that others might as well. However I have a few obstacles in the way.

1. I don't which blog service to use.
2. I don't know how to host music.
3. I don't know how I would market the blog.
4. I don't know what device I should use to record the concert snippets.

These are big obstacles but If you have any information or practical advice that can help me with these I would be super jazzed.

Any advice for using Drupal with Blogger? Advice for Drupal in general? I know about the APIs, but I'm not sure if this is right for what I'm doing. I just want my photo-heavy blog to look cool and original without paying for hosting. I'm a total noob, with no existing blog. I'm hoping to get my tools and knowledge together before I actually go live.

Please help this artistic but noobie blogger get started and kick some butt!

I'm putting together a comprehensive list of interesting musicians who run their own weblogs - can you help? I've already got a bunch but I'd like to try and put together a definitive list. When I say interesting musicians, I'm talking about those that fall just slightly (or quite a bit) off of the beaten path - musicians like Bob Mould, or Mike Doughty, or even Radiohead. Basically, musicians that would be considered (and I hate using this term) "alternative", or at the very least popular musicians with something interesting to say.

I'm trying to rework my (largely) notional record label website into more of a free frequently updating mp3 blog thing. I already have hosting and a site w/existing architecture, so I don't really want/need to do a blogspot/blogger etc. thing. Mostly I just want to change it to a scrolling blog format where I can easily upload new tunes as I finish them, and perhaps art/photos as well, with an easily accessible mp3-only archive too. I am competent w/photoshop and have a good eye for design as well as some very basic HTML skills, but I tried to get this going myself with "Wordpress" the other day and thoroughly blew my mind. I would prefer not to pay the $70+ for movable type, nor do I think I could get it going.

I guess my primary questions would be: a) Can I do this myself, if so how? (Ideally looking to stay cost-free or very close) b) If not, any of you guys/gals in the Chicago area have web design recommendations/skills to offer? Unfortunately, it would be a low budget affair at best, but I'm not really looking for anything terribly complicated here, and I would also be more than willing to offer booze, food, good company, and other (non-scandalous) alternate compensation as well. But feel free to tell me to stick it right up my pooper if doing this right would require some legitimate expense, though. Thanks!

Anybody know where I can get another copy of the Drive By Truckers' live cover of "Hey Ya" that was making the rounds of the music blogs last year? So I screwed up my iPod somehow and lost a bunch of tunes I'd grabbed from music blogs. I don't miss any of them except this one. Google turns up a bunch of broken links, which is to be expected.

What are some good music blogs? (With a slant towards old skool hip hop or reggae would be best, but I'm open to give a listen to anything/everything.) I'm constantly on the lookout for more music. I'm looking for a place I can go every day or two and read a bunch of posts that say things like "Check out this dj mix of blah blah" with a link to a stream, or "If you like Blackalicious, take a listen to THIS and THIS" with links to mp3s on some band's site.

I know I must suck hard core, because I can't get the search engine to work, but does anyone remember where that MeFi post about a recording engineer's "real" stories about working on a major artist's album, which devolves into Spinal Tap-esque antics? I read a description of Metallica's new documentary, and it sounds almost exactly the same, so I wanted to read it again. I've put everything I could think of into the search engine, and have come up empty. Can anyone help me out?
