Looking for an old non-fiction article about blindness.

There have been a few punctuated instances in health. I'm struggling to find a non-fiction article about when [I think] cataracts suddenly became curable and the experiences of those that had newfound eyesight. [more inside]

Ulocked Android phone with QUERTY keyboard?

Are there any newer phones that use the Android operating system (Jelly bean or later) that also are both available unlocked and that have a physical QUERTY keyboard? Shopping for a blind person who is trying to find easier ways to send text messages, but doesn't want a full-time plan as he is out of the country half the year.

How do I remove this Venetian Blind?

One of my cats has chewed through the cord of these blinds and we need to fix it before we move out in a couple of weeks. The attachment seems to be different from the others in the house which were spring loaded. We have tried pulling, rotating and prying with a screwdriver but nothing seems to move it. Here is a link to one of the brackets holding the blind in place. I've had a look through the other questions but didn't see anything that matched what we have.

Blindness translation to and from dreams?

I am a quite vivid dreamer, but one of my reoccurring themed dreams is me going along, usually in a vehicle which I may or may not control, and going blind temporarily while travelling in that vehicle. I'm used to them, but does going blind during vivid or lucid dreaming at all related to blindness caused by TIAs? [more inside]

Help me find a big-button phone for my elderly father

My father has been using a plain old phone for decades. He's been somewhat visually impaired for a long time, but recently he started receiving an eye treatment in his one good eye that has reduced his vision even further. He also has low dexterity (though his mind's still totally sharp) due to a stroke earlier this year. He needs a new phone. Help! [more inside]

Technology aids to help grandma get more out of life?

My grandmother is in her mid-90s now. She's still fairly active, but her eyes bother her, and I've seen that take away two of the basic pleasures of her life. One is reading the newspaper. She can only read the headlines now. The other is mahjong. The combination of light and script on the tiles make her uncomfortable. [more inside]

Games that I can play over Skype with my blind friend?

I'm looking for video games that I could read aloud and describe as I play so that one of my friends who is blind could participate. We would be doing this over Skype. Ideally, we'd like games with multiple choices and decisions that affect the gameplay or story, less linear games and fairly complicated gameplay. We wouldn't want anything in real time, anything that requires coordination or games where the visuals are essential. [more inside]
