<title>Why are some black people afraid of my dog?</title>
	<link>http://ask.metafilter.com/84584/Why-are-some-black-people-afraid-of-my-dog</link>
<description>Why are some black people afraid of my dog? Today Matilda and I went downtown for lunch. We were sitting at a table outside on the sidewalk, she was on a leash. She had her tongue lolling out, panting, with her customary goofy friendly look on her face. 4 black teenagers came walking down the sidewalk and froze with petrified expressions on their faces. &quot;Does that dog bite?&quot; one of them asked. &quot; No, she&apos;s very friendly&quot; I answered. They moved as far away from her as possible while still staying on the sidewalk and walked cautiously past, never taking their eyes off the dog. I&apos;ve noticed this happening before with black people but I always wonder why. She is a 65 pound dog, but obviously friendly and non-threatening. She has a pink collar with flowers on it. Several other people stopped to pet her without bothering to ask me if she is friendly, it&apos;s that obvious that she is friendly. Does anyone know what the deal is?</description>
