Today Matilda and I went downtown for lunch. We were sitting at a table outside on the sidewalk, she was on a leash. She had her tongue lolling out, panting, with her customary goofy friendly look on her face. 4 black teenagers came walking down the sidewalk and froze with petrified expressions on their faces. "Does that dog bite?" one of them asked. "No, she's very friendly" I answered. They moved as far away from her as possible while still staying on the sidewalk and walked cautiously past, never taking their eyes off the dog. I've noticed this happening before with black people but I always wonder why. She is a 65 pound dog, but obviously friendly and non-threatening. She has a pink collar with flowers on it. Several other people stopped to pet her without bothering to ask me if she is friendly, it's that obvious that she is friendly.
