I escaped a long-term abusive marriage homeless with a lot of hermit like attributes. It's been about three years of clawing and crawling out of that hole, and while I'm not completely out, I do have an apartment, job, friends, and enough money to feed me and my kid three squares a day. That deserves a celebration and I'm determined that I'm going to spend a long weekend with my best friend in London in December as a combo birthday/holiday gift to myself. I want to see Hyde Park done up for the holidays, do a Jack the Ripper tour, eat in a pub, and visit a museum [more inside]
I want to go out for a good meal with my family* for my 30th birthday, so I'm looking for a really good (but not too fancy) restaurant in London. Make me some recommendations! [more inside]

I'm planning on holding a private birthday pub quiz at the beginning of December, somewhere in London. The only problem is I can't find a suitable venue, and I'm struggling on ways to make it really special. Your help is appreciated! [more inside]
Triple birthday weekender in London. 12 or so late-20 and early-30 somethings are looking for a great night on Saturday 9th October in London. Any suggestions? We'd like somewhere pretty cool, no acid techno or anything.... Please help me, you're amazing.
Avantgarde London: I want to take my girlfriend out to a biggish music/sound performance/event. I want it to be avantgarde, unexpected and unique - the kind of night that would send most music lovers screaming into the distance. I am thinking maybe opera, but I know NOTHING about it. And, as I said, I want avantgarde opera in London. Where do I start? [more inside]
I need a birthday cake for Friday (Sat morning at the latest). Doesn't have to be anything exciting, just something that can feed about 20 people, and says 'Happy Birthday' on it. I live in London - where on earth would I go to get such a thing? I guess I could try large supermarkets, but there aren't many in central London, and it would be nice to get something 'handmade', by a decent bakery. All suggestions gratefully recieved!
