It's my birthday today, what various NYC businesses would give me free things by telling them this?

The Spousal Unit knows I like to be made a fuss of on my birthday and is happy to oblige, but this year we're low on cash, and he's a little lost. I'm trying to compile a list of fun, cash-free (or very cheap) things to do, so he can pick a couple and run with it. We are in Portland, Oregon, and mostly homebodies. I'm a voracious reader, and lover of all things spooky, and general ideas are great.

Today is my birthday. No congratulations needed or sought; the gift of your answer to my query will suffice! How can I monetize this? Yes, I'm looking for places in New York City that will give me a free ice cream (or something else) in exchange for a quick glance at my ID. Preferably places that don't require me to be under 12. I'm turning 36 on Monday. I'm tempted to do the cheesy thing for the sake of amusement and take advantage of "free on your birthday" offers - can you suggest some good ones (I know about these)? What was the best free thing you got on your birthday?
