I've recently started taking St. John's Wort and have had great results. Unfortunately, it seems to cause my pills to stop working. My cycle has been erratic at best since I started taking St. John's Wort. Are there types of birth control pills that have less interaction?

What can I do to help my wife during the delivery of our first child? She is due in the next few weeks, and I would like to have some ideas of how I can help her through delivery so that I don't feel like I am standing around doing nothing. [more inside]

Where is the hospital I was born at? (in Brooklyn, NY)
I am trying to figure out what has become of the hospital I was born at. I was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1969. The hospital on my Birth Certificate says "Brooklyn Jewish Medical Center". My family moved to Queens a few years after I was born and then I moved out of New York altogether when I was 27. I never really knew Brooklyn that well, although I have been trying to visit there more over the years.

What would be the best/easiest way of creating 50-100 copies of a CD Birth Announcement that contains both music and photos? I am not talking about a slide show presentation set to music. The wife and I have chosen, and purchased on CD, fun songs that have the baby's name in the title, that we want people to be able to listen to on their CD/DVD players. We would also like to include some photos of the baby, they could be files on the CD or printed on paper as part of an insert/cover. I have EXPECTANT FATHER BRAIN please help. [more inside]

I am in my foruth month of Microgestin pills. I started taking the pills to help control my blackheads but just this month I started breaking out with really bad cystic acne. I tend to get deprresed easily and have always had severe cramps. I was wondering if anyone with matching ailments has any advice on birth control. I have taken several and quit early on due to spotting or worsening cramps. I am thinking of switching to Yasmin because of its reputation with acne sufferers. Any suggestions?

About six months ago, my girlfriend went on The Pill - first Yasmin, then Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Both caused mood swings and significant intestinal distress, but her physicians (internist and OBGYN) thought that she'd be safe to stay on, if she could put up with the side effects. This month, as a test, she went off, and she feels hugely better. So, now, we're considering alternatives, and looking for anecdotal advice.

Is there any medical reason to disclose a past abortion (uncomplicated, several years ago, at 8 weeks) to my new OB-Gyn, who will (hopefully) be ushering me through a successful pregnancy and birth? There is no existing medical record that I know of, since the procedure was done at a clinic in another state, and wasn't claimed on insurance, because I didn't have any at the time.

I had unprotected sex 5 days after starting birth control pills. (My birth control type advises to use an alternate method for 7 days after starting). Should I get emergency contraception? Even if it means getting my period again a week after it ended?

I need a version of the Christmas story that is simple enough for children to understand in a story format rather than reading scripture. An online version would be nice!

Help me reduce my anxiety about labor & delivery of my first child (due date = less than a week).... I'm having recurrent nightmares: Repeat airplane crash scenarios. Nightmares of my husband getting killed on the way home from work. Of having a stranger assault me at home, BTK style. And it doesn't help that we had to put our wonderful dog to sleep last week. It is a widely quoted statistic that, with "perfect use", condoms have a 3% failure rate. My question - these 3% of uses that result in pregnancy, is it because the condom breaks, or because of some invisible factory defect? Put another way - if you follow all of the "best practices," and, when you're done, the condom hasn't broken, is it safe to assume that it worked?

I've recently been given new information about my birth mother (i was adopted at the age of two). The information includes her first and last name, her social security number, and more. Using her name and the beauty of the interweb, i have found that she has married and is probably living in California. Is there any easy & reputable way to get a mailing address for the purpose of a brief "dear you" letter ? [more inside]

One of my dearest friends is having a little girl later this month, and as her massage therapist, I get the honor of being present for the birth. If any other MTs, doulas, midwives or experienced moms and dads have suggestions for things to have on hand, techniqes for soothing the mom-to-be or general wisdom about the blessed event, I’d sure be grateful.
